Registration Selection

Are you on the right track for graduation?

On the Right Track CREDITS:

the points you accumulate to graduate.

YOU MUST HAVE 22 CREDITS WITH PASSING GRADES OF 70 TO GRADUATE!!

• If the class lasts one full year= 1 credit

• If a class is a half-year class or a semester class = ½ credit

On the Right Track

What kinds of classes will you have to take? Typically, you will take:

❖4 years of math

❖4 years of English

❖3 years of science

❖3 years of social studies

❖There are also PE/Wellness classes and elective classes to fulfill your focus area.

•Do you know what your focus area is?

•Do you know if you have to have a Fine Arts class and two credits of Foreign Language?

On the Right TrackMath options include:

-Algebra I

-Algebra II

-Geometry

-Bridge Math

-SAILS Math

-pre-Calculus

-AP Calculus

On the Right Track

• AP pre-Calculus is a DUAL CREDIT course. This means it is taught as a college course, however, at the end of the course, if you pass the test, you will receive college credit.

• AP CALCULUS is also a challenging course. If you are interested in becoming an engineer or an architect, you need to consider those options for your math credit.

On the Right Track

English options are:

-English I

-English II

-English III

-English IV

-Creative Writing

-Journalism

On the Right Track

• ALL English courses offer the option for an Honor’s class. An Honor’s class is more challenging.

• English IV is offered through Motlow State Community College as a Dual Enrollment class. Like pre-Calculus, if you pass the course, you receive college credit.

• Get a head start on your English class by reading lots of good books this summer! You’ll be that much more prepared for your required BOOK TALK!

On the Right Track

Science options are:

-Biology

-Physical Science

-Chemistry

-Biology II

-*Physics

*This is dependent on the number of students who register for Physics.

On the Right Track

There are only 3 Science classes that are required credits for graduation:

-Biology

-Physical Science

-Chemistry

However, if you have a Math & Science focus area you will need to take all the Science courses we offer. This is especially important if you have an interest in a medical field.

On the Right Track

Social Studies options are:

-World History/World Geography

-Us History

-US Government

-Economics

-Personal Finance

On the Right Track

Personal Finance, Economics and US Government are all semester classes versus year long classes.

When you choose one of those classes as your option, remember that you can

select another semester

class to fit in that same

slot.

On the Right Track

Some additional required courses are:

-Physical Education (one semester)

-Wellness (2 semesters)

Typically, Wellness is taken

when students are freshmen.

On the Right Track

If students are college bound, they are

REQUIRED to have one Fine Arts credit.

At Community High School options are:

-Vocal Music -Visual Art I, II, III

-Guitar I, II -Drama I, II, III

-Band I, II, III, IV -Speech

-Chamber Music

On the Right Track

Most students have enough room in their schedules that they are able to take Fine Arts classes even if they aren’t college bound.

You might want to be in the band or a member of the Smokestack Theater drama troupe.

Students must have 3 credits in a

FOCUS AREA.At Community High School there are four focus area options:

-Human Services

-Agriculture Science

-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

-Business Management and Administration

On the Right TrackHuman Services courses are taught by Mrs. Friedman.

Agriculture courses are taught by Mr. Tocchio.

STEM courses are taught by Mr. Stitzel.

Business Management courses are taught by Mrs. Gregory.

The following classes are options if students choose

Human Services as a FOCUS AREA:

-Introduction to Human Studies

-Nutrition Across the Lifespan

-Nutrition Science and Diet Therapy

-Foundations of Fashion

-Fashion Design

If you decide to have HUMAN SERVICES as your focus area, you will have the opportunity to join the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America organization, better known as FCCLA.

On the Right Track

The following options are available if a student chooses

Agriculture Science as a FOCUS AREA:

-Agriculture Science

-Small Animal Science

-Large Animal Science

-Veterinary Science

-Plant and Soil Science

If you decide to have AGRICULTURE SCIENCE as your area of focus you have the opportunity to join Future Farmers of America, better known as FFA.

On the Right Track

The following classes are available if a student chooses the

STEM Education Cluster as the FOCUS AREA:

-STEM I: Foundations

-STEM II: Applications

-STEM III: STEM in Context

-Tech Design

-Advance Design

On the Right Track

If you choose STEM Education as your FOCUS AREA you have the opportunity to join Technology Students of America, better know as TSA.

On the Right Track

The following classes are available if a student chooses the

Business Management and Administration FOCUS AREA:

-Introduction to Business & Marketing

-Computer Applications

-Accounting I

-Business Management

-Business Entrepreneurship Practicum (Work-based Learning)

If you choose Business Administration as your FOCUS AREA, you have the opportunity to join Future Business Leaders of America, better known as FBLA.

On the Right Track

You will soon have the opportunity to complete an

ONLINE REGISTRATION

for next year’s classes. It is

VERY IMPORTANT

to register for the classes that you need to complete your high school credits for graduation with your cohort year.

YOU have a responsibility to keep track of what classes you have taken each year.

It is a VERY good idea to select a

STUDY HALL

As part of your schedule selection, especially if you are involved in athletics or other extra-curricular activities.

If you are a student athlete, according to the rules of TSSAA you must pass 5 courses the semester prior to the one in which you will

participate in your sport.

YOU

have the responsibility to keep up with your academic courses and make sure you are passing all of your subjects.

There are times when some students qualify to take an

ONLINE COURSE.

If you are interested in an online course, there is a separate form to be completed. Dr. Ralston approves all online course applications.

When it is your turn to select classes for next year you will:

1. Log-in to Skyward

2. Click “schedule page”

3. View requests for the school year, then click

4. Select the course you want to have

5. Click “add course”

6. After you have clicked on the course, drag the course to the right hand side of the screen.

7. If there is a “save” button somewhere, be sure to click that button!
