Good interview tips Practice, practice, practice ! Do your homework on the person that is

interviewing you if you know who’s taking the interview and also investigate the company – having background knowledge creates more self-confidence.

Create open-ended questions to ask yourself, questions requiring more than a yes or no answer will give a more interesting response.

Get to the interview at least 10 minutes early.

Continued.. Be polite and positive. The candidate should seem interested, and

indicate they have the skills which suit the job requirements – YOU ask questions too.

Eye contact- if nervous about looking into someone’s eyes, then look at their fore head.

Speak slowly and calmly. Dress to impress – smartly. Handshakes should be firm, but not too tight!

Tests

There are a number of tests an organisation sets for the candidate wishing to receive the job, such as ;

I.Q tests Personality tests Health tests Aptitude tests

Assessment Centres

These centres last one or two days, or sometimes longer.

These are held after the first round of interviews, but before the final selection.

They are held on the employers premises or a hotel.

There are many events at these centres.

Social/informal events is one thing the assessment centre holds. This is to allow you to find out about the company and meet new people.

Information sessions is another. This simply provides more info about the organisation and the post available.

Tests and exercises is one other thing, which reveals the candidates potential.

Internal RecruitmentAdvantages

Gives employees the opportunity to develop their career.

Less need for induction training.

Strengths and weaknesses of employee have already been identified.

Less expensive form of recruitment.

Can improve staff morale.

Disadvantages

•Someone more qualified/expert may be excluded from applying for the job.

•Another job vacancy will arise and will need to be filled.

•Lack of new ideas.

•May cause jealousy/resentment within the department/organisation.
