Inconsiderationofthepaymentbyyouoftheapplicablefees,GetDatagrantstoyou,andyouaccept,anonexclusivenon-transferablelicensetousetheSoftwareandDocumentation.GetDataisandremainstheexclusiveowneroftheSoftwareandtheDocumentation.YouacknowledgethatcopyrightintheSoftwareandDocumentationremainsatalltimeswithGetData.UnauthorizedcopyingormodificationoftheSoftwareand/orDocumentationwillentitleGetDatatoimmediatelyterminatethisAgreement.GetDatashallhavetherighttochecklicensedetailsatanytimeinanyreasonablemanner.

Youmayfreelydistributetheunregistered"trial"versionoftheSoftware.

The"StandardLicense"permitsyoutoinstallandusetheSoftwareonasinglecomputeror,intheeventthatyouhavepurchasedmultiplelicenses,toinstalltheSoftwareconcurrentlyonmultiplecomputersequivalenttothenumberoflicensesthatyouhavepurchased.ThestandardlicensedoesnotallowyoutousetheSoftwaretoperformcommercialdatarecoveryservicesforotherparties.

The"ProfessionalLicense"permitsyoutoinstallandusethesoftwareonasinglecomputeror,intheeventthatyouhavepurchasedmultiple

licenses,toinstalltheSoftwareconcurrentlyonmultiplecomputersequivalenttothenumberoflicensesthatyouhavepurchased.ThestandardlicensedoesnotallowyoutousetheSoftwaretoperformcommercialdatarecoveryservicesforotherparties.

The"DataRecoveryTechnician"licenseisprovidedonahardwaredongleonly.Itallowsthelicenseholdertoinstallthesoftwareonathirdpartycomputerandactivateitwiththedongleforthepurposeofperformingdatarecoveryservices.

Youarenotpermittedtosharethelicense,productactivationinformation,orhardwaredonglefortheSoftwarewithotherusers.

Unlessyouhavepurchasedmultiplelicenses,thislicensedoesnotpermityoutoloadorusetheSoftwareonanetworkserverorsimilardevicewhichpermitsaccessbymultiplecomputers

GetDatamayfromtimetotimereviseorupdatetheSoftwareandshallmakesuchrevisionsorupdatesavailablesubjecttopaymentoftheapplicablelicensefee.SupportfortheSoftwareisprovidedattheproductwebsite.

TheSoftwareandDocumentationisprotectedunderAustralianlawandinternationallawandinternationalconventionsandtreaties.Youmaynotrent,lease,sublicense,assignorotherwisetransferuseoftheSoftwaretootherswithouttheexpresswrittenpermissionofGetData.DoingsowillentitleGetDatatoimmediatelyterminatethisAgreement.

Excepttotheextentapplicablelawspecificallyprohibitssuchrestrictions,youmaynotreverseengineer,reversecompile,disassembleorotherwisemodifytheSoftwareinanyway.

The"SaveFilesAs..."buttonpromptsyoutogiveeachfileanewnameasitissaved.Ifyouhaveselectedmanyfilesthiscanbeverytimeconsuming.Itisrecommendedthatyouonlyuse"SaveAs"ifyouaresavingasmallnumberoffilesandwishtochangethefilenamesduringthesaveprocess.

"SavetoaCD/DVD"

RecoverMyFileshasthecapabilitytosavefilesdirectlytoaCDorDVD.Importantly,theisasecureprocesswhichdoesnotwritenewdatatothedisk.LearnmoreaboutsavingfilestoaCDorDVDhere.

WheredoIsavefiles?

RecoverMyFilesisdesignedspecificallysothatitdoesnotalterthecontentofthedrivebeingsearched.Thisavoidsnewdataoverwritingandpermanentlydestroyingdeletedormissingfilesthatcouldhaveotherwisebeenrecovered.Forthisreason:

YoumustsavefilesfoundwithRecoverMyFilestoadriveotherthantheonefromwhichthefilesarebeingrecovered.

Yourprimaryoptionsare:

1. Savetoanotherdrive;

Thiscanbeanotherdriveletteronyouharddrive(e.g.:Drive"D:\"),anotherseparateharddriveconnectedinsidetoyourcomputeroranexternal

harddriveconnectedbyUSB,FireWire,orothermethod.

2. SavetoaCDorDVD;

Inordertosavefilestoanetworkdrive,theremotelocationmustbesharedasadriveletteronthecomputerwhichisrunningRecoverMyFiles.Then,whenthe"Browse"buttonisselectedintheRecoverMyFiles"SaveFiles"window(shownbelow)itispossibletonavigatetoandselectthisremotedriveletter.

Ifyouaresavingfilesfrom"FileType"view,thefilesthataresavedwillhavesamefilenamesandfolderstructurethatyouseeinthe"FileType"view.

WhathappensafterIsavethefiles?

Asafileissaved,thetickisremovedfromtheselectionbox.

Theresultsstayinthesearchwindow.InRecoverMyFilesversion4,theresultsonlydisappearifyoustartanewsearchorclosetheprogram.Youcanonlyreloadtheexistingsearchresultsifyouhavepreviouslysavethem-learnhowhere.

Alwaysgotothedrivewherethefilesweresavedandopenthemtotestiftheyhavebeensavedcorrectly.

Neverwritenewdatatotheproblemdriveuntilyouaresurethatyouhaverecoveredalldatathatyouneed.WritingnewdatatothedrivewillchangeitscontentandmayoverwriteanddestroydeletedormissingfilessothatanewsearchwillRecoverMyFileswillnolongerfindthem.

RunaLostFilesearchonly

Selectingthisoptionwillover-ridetheRecoverMyFilesWizardselectionandwillcauseRecoverMyFilestoperformONLYa'LostFile'searchoftheentiredrivefromthefirstsectortothelast.

Scanforlostfilesacrossthewholedevice(andnotonlyinthefreespace)

Initsnormaloperation,RecoverMyFilesreadstheexistingfilesystem/sandanyrecoveredfilesystem/sandtreatsthisasallocatedspace.Then,whenitmovesintothescanforLostFiles,itscansonlytheunallocatedspace.Thegoalistoreducethevolumeofdatathatneedstobesearchedtomakethesearchfaster.

Usingtheoption“Scanforlostfilesacrossthewholedevice”tellsRecoverMyFilesthatwhenitgetstotheLostFilesearch,itneedstorunovertheentiredrive,fromthefistsectortothelast.Thismeansthattwocopiesofafilecanbefound,thefirstasafilewithitsfullfileandfoldername(foundasaFilesystemrecord)andthe

secondasaLostFile(bylocatingtheheaderandfooterofthisfileinallocatedspace).

Inmostcircumstances,thistypeofsearchwouldbeoflimitedvalue.However,youmaygetasituationwherethefilesystemiscorruptandonlypartsofthefilesystempointtovalidfilesonthediskwhilsttheremainderdonot.Inthissituation,the‘allocated’spacewouldbeerroneous,sotherewouldbevalueinalsorunningalostfilescanovertheentiredrive.

JBOD

JBOD(JustaBunchOfDisks)isatermtodescribethegroupingofodd-sizeddrivesintoonelargerusefuldrive.Foreexample,aJBODcouldcombine3GB,15GB,5.5GB,and12GBdrivesintoalogicaldriveat35.5GB,whichisoftenmoreusefulthantheindividualdrivesseparately.

RAID0

ARAID0(alsoknownasastripesetorstripedvolume)splitsdataevenlyacrosstwoormoredisks(striped)withnoparityinformationforredundancy.ItisimportanttonotethatRAID0wasnotoneoftheoriginalRAIDlevelsandprovidesnodataredundancy.RAID0isnormallyusedtoincreaseperformance,althoughitcanalsobeusedasawaytocreateasmallnumberoflargevirtualdisksoutofalargenumberofsmallphysicalones.

ARAID0canbecreatedwithdisksofdifferingsizes,butthestoragespaceaddedtothearraybyeachdiskislimitedtothesizeofthesmallestdisk.Forexample,ifa120GBdiskisstripedtogetherwitha100GBdisk,thesizeofthearraywillbe200GB.

RAID1

HowdoIselectFilestobeSaved?

Toselectafiletobesaved,inthefiledetailswindowplaceatickintheboxnexttothefile,asshowninthescreencapturebelow.Youcanselectmultiplefilestobesavedbydoingoneofthefollowing:

1. Toselectafileorfoldertobesaved,placeatickintheboxnexttothatfileorfolder.

Solution: Itisnotpossibletosavefilestothesamedrivefromwhichthefilesarebeingrecoveredasthisprocesscouldoverwriteandpermanentlydeleteyettobesavedfiles.Youmustsavefilestoanotherdrive,floppydisk,externalstoragemedia,ornetworkdrive.

Problem: IcannotsavefilestoawritableCDorDVD.

Solution: TheabilitytowritefilesdirectlytoaCDorDVDwasimplementedinRecoverMyFilesversion2.93.Theoptionisavailablebyclickingthedropdownarrownextthe"SaveFiles"button.

IfyoureceiveanerrormessagewhenattemptingtowritefilestoaCDorDVDfirsttryanduseadifferentbrand/typeofCDorDVDmediae.g.DVD+R.Iftheproblempersists,pleasecontactusviathesupportlinkatwww.recovermyfiles.comandprovide:
