‘Reasons to Travel’ explores the definition and relationship of travelling and home. The project came from the travel experience of the artist herself. As a Taiwanese lives in London, Cheng travels many countries in her life, for working as well as for tourism. She started to think about the reasons people travelling, and the relationship between people and the place. How the environment changes people’s mind, and how we become different while being in a place where we do not belong to? What is the difference between travelling to a place for tourism where she has never been, and travelling back to Taiwan or London? It was travelling, but in the end, it became a process to find out where is the place we identify as our home. The pictures are taken by Cheng while travelling to different countries, can be seen as the result of the experiment of being in the status of ‘travelling’. The texts are the reasons people travelling, collected from friends and herself.
