DET wanted to improve Year 8 Science tests by using interactive lab style assessment

The test – an online test conducted simultaneously for 65,000 students

The cost - $200,000 for the server infrastructure

DET launched the Essential School Science Test in 2010 to 650,000 students in 650 schools

The test was hosted in the cloud by Microsoft on 300 Azure servers

The cost - $40 per hour per server The outcome – the test was conducted
