THE FIRST MENTION OF THE PLACE-NAME RAJASTHAN APPEARS IN JAMES

TOD'S 1829 PUBLICATION, ANNALS AND ANTIQUITIES OF RAJASTHAN OR THE CENTRAL AND WESTERN RAJPOOT STATES OF INDIA.

THE MAIN GEOGRAPHIC FEATURES OF RAJASTHAN ARE THE THAR DESERT AND THE ARAVALLI RANGE, WHICH RUNS THROUGH THE STATE FROM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST, ALMOST FROM ONE END TO THE OTHER, FOR MORE THAN 850 KILOMETRES (530 MI).

One of the world's oldest mountain ranges, the Aravali Range, cradles the only hill station of Rajasthan

Jaipur : the pink city

Jaipur is the capital and the largest city of the state. Geographical features include the Thar Desert along north-western Rajasthan and the termination of the Ghaggar River near the archaeological ruins at Kalibanga of the Indus Valley Civilization, which are the oldest in the Indian subcontinent discovered so far.

Jaipur is well knowned by the name of “PINK CITY”. From the earlier days of maharajas this is named so.

THE RAJPUTANA : *Udaipur : the city of lakes

Udaipur also known as the City of Lakes, is a city, a Municipal Corporation and the administrative headquarters of theUdaipur district in the state of Rajasthan in western India.

Udaipur is the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar in the formerRajputana Agency. The Guhils (Sisodia) clan ruled the Mewar and its capital was shifted from Chittorgarh to Udaipur after founding city of Udaipur by Maharana Uday Singh.

THE DESERT AREA :

The city is known as the "Sun City" for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all year. It is also referred to as the "Blue City" due to the vivid blue-painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort.
