Raystown Lake was constructed between 1968 and
1978 at a cost of $76 million. Flood control is its
primary purpose, but there are obvious benefits for
recreation, fish and wildlife management, hydropower,
water quality and low flow enhancement downstream.
The dam controls a drainage area of 960 square miles
in the Juniata and Susquehanna River basins. Major
flooding prevented in the region shows how effectively
this facility protects millions of people.
Raystown Lake welcomes persons with disabilities. To determine if a facility is accessible for your needs, please call (814) 658-3405, x0.
Striped, largemouth and smallmouth bass, muskie, walleye, and crappie are some of the fish that you’ll catch at Raystown Lake. Visit one of the local bait and tackle shops to find out what baits and spots are hot …and what’s not!
Explore It!
