We are united by history andour shared values.

What symbols can you see on theAustralian flag ?

The Union Jack remindsus of our history as aBritish colony.

The large star is called theCommonwealth Star.

The Southern Crossis easily seen in thenight sky fromAustralia.

In February, 1952, PrincessElizabeth became Queen

Elizabeth II.

Where do we seepictures of the Queen

On June 13th, werecognize herbirthday (althoughher real birthday is21st April!)

Her majesty's birthday iscelebrated during summer in thenorthern hemisphere so that theoutdoor weather is suitable forcelebrations and ceremonies.

The Queen's Birthday Honoursare awarded to Australiancitizens for actions or deeds

that benefit our nation.

In Australia, we celebrate byhaving a public holiday.
