Loadlng the film
The camera takes al l 35 mm miniature f i lmsin standard cartr idges of 12,20 or 36 exposuresavailable throughout the world, as well as day-l ight spools, darkroom reloads and bulk f i lmloaded in such cartr idges. Load the f i lm intothe camera at least in the shade of your ownbody; avoid bri l l iant sunl ight and dusty loca-t ions.
Open the camera back 5 by pul l ing up therewind knob 6 and fold open. Brief ly press inthe rewind release 35.
Ful ly pul l out the rewind knob 6 and insert thefi lm cartr idge. Turn the rewind knob unti l i t canbe pushed in again .
Pull out the f i lm leader from the cartr idge andful ly push i t into the outer slot 48. Turn themil led wheel 49 in the direct ion of the whitearrows to get both f i lm perforat ions properlymesheci. Close the camera back and let itengage.Alternately release and tension as shown unti lthe exposure counter 7 shows . 1 '

With infra-red film(of maximum sensit ivi ty at a wavelength of800 nm) f irst focus as described above. Thenread the distance opposite the index 17, mountthe infra-red f i l ter and reset the distance readagainst the infra-red index 18.
Depth of fieldDirect assessment: Ful ly depress the stop-down key 11, thus closing the aperture to thepreset value. Framlng the subfect
The prism f inder shows a bright, lateral ly cor-rect and paral lax-free image with optimum con-formity to the view recorded on the f i lm.l f the required subject f ield or the aspiredperspective view cannot be covered with thelens attached by changing the shooting direc-t ion or viewpoint, use interchangeable lenses(see page 14 - Changing lenses).
Finder accessoriesThe mounting groove 20 on the f inder eyepiece16 takes an eyepiece cup 53 to screen off ex-ternal glare.Spectacle wearers may use a correcting lens 54made up by any optician (outside diameter ofthe lens 26 mm). Inser t the lens d i rect ly in theins ide mount o f the cup 53 by pushing in unt i li t engages. Remove by pushing out in the op-posite direct ion.The groove 20 wi l l a lso take a r ight ang le f inderwhich is used for low-level shots (worm's eyeviews), for shooting round the corner and whenusing the camera on a microscope etc.

Push in the locking button 21. Release the lensfrom the camera bayonet 2 by turning to theleft.Attach the interchangeable lens so that the reddot 22 on the lens bayonet l ines up with thered dot 24 on the camera bayonet, then turnto the r ight unti l the lens locks.
For rapid one-handed lens changing press thebutton 21 with the r ight index f inger while theright hand at the same t ime turns the lens tothe left . When insert ing, the red dol22 is cor-rect ly located when the changeover switch 29is level with the self-t imer lever 32.
Always change lenses in the shade of your ownbody; avoid bri l l iant sunl ight and dusty con-d i t ions.

Never touch the instant return mirror 25. Whenno lens is mounted in the camera body 26close i t with the blanking cap 56, avai lable asan accessory (f i t and remove this l ike an inter-changeable lens).
Protect the front and rear lens of interchange-able lenses, when not on the camera, with thecaps 57 and 58.

The lens case 59 protects the lens against dustand moisture. Remove the internal l id 60 whenthe lens is inserted with the front and rear capsin pos i t ion.
The same lens case takes the 35, 50 or 85 mmlenses.
Lens cases with extra lenses can also be fittedon the camera carrying strap. A second strapmay carry further lens cases 59 with inter-changeable lenses or accessories.

The exposure meter
The ful l- f ield exposure measurement methodat the working aperture has been designed bypractical photographers for practical photo-graphy. In the large majori ty of cases this wellplanned system direct ly yields the optimumreading. l t works rel iably even in dif f icult spe-cial cases i f a few simple rules are fol lowed.
The exposure meter is a precision instrumentof lr igh sensit ivi ty with a special ly extended mea-sur ing range (1 second at f /1 .8 to r / rooo secondat f /16 wi th 100 ASA or 21 DIN f i lm) . l t assessesthe average brightness of the subject f ieldcovered and uses two cadmium sulphidecel ls to measure the l ight coming through thelens. Th is "TTL measurement" automat ica l lya l lows for a l l b r ightness var ia t ions due to f i l -ters, extension tubes, extension bel lows, effec-t ive lens aperture changes etc. Moreover, theRollei measuring system accordingly weightsthe important image centre more than the edgeof the f ield. The i l lustrat ion shows the shapeand posit ion of the central area whose bright-ness contr ibutes about 90 per cent of the rea-d ing .

Measuring the exposure /
With preselected shutter speedTurn the shutter speed dial 27 in either direc-t ion unti l the required shutter speed engagesopposite the index 28. This can be done with.the shutter tensioned or not tensioned.The f igures on the shutter speed dial indicatefract ions of a second. No intermediate valuescan be used.The B sett ing (for t ime exposures of any length)cannot be preselected for exposure measure-ment.
Set the changeover switch 29 to "A" (automaticspring-loaded aperture). Sight the subjectthrough the f inder eyepiece 16 and depress thestop-down key 11: this switches on the metersystem. Turn the aperture r ing 15 to centre themeter needle 61. The aperture r ing engagesat half stop intervals down to the smallest stopbut one; however, intermediate sett ings canalso be used.When the meter needle is centred in the cut-out, the correct aperture is set for the prese-lected shutter speed. Then release the stop-down key: this switches off the meter systemand the meter needle returns into i ts rest posi-t ion point ing obl iquely upwards.

l f the meter needle does not react or cannotbe centred, preselect a dif ferent exposuretime: l f the needle stops too high up, use ashorter t ime; i f the needle is too low down, usea longer t ime, as given in the table on page 50.
Applications: Exposures requiring fast shutterspeeds to arrest rapid movement (act ion andsports shots, street scenes, chi ldren, animalsetc.) or to avoid camera shake (when shootingfrom a car, train, ship or aircraft, when moun-taineering etc.).
lmportant: The large measuring range permitsshots under v i r tua l ly a l l l ight condi t ions. Theusable sett ing range and appropriate t ime forpreselection are shown in the table on page 50.

Releasing
Hold the camera steady. Smoothly and ful lydepress the release button 12.
With cable reteaseFor slower shutter speeds - exposure t imeslonger than 1/ro second - screw the cablerelease into the socket 31 and mount thecamera on a tr ipod (with a thread of up to 0.18inch/4.5 mm length) . For long t ime exposuresuse a cable release with lock, also cover thefinder eyepiece to screen off stray l ight.
With self-timerTension the lever 32 as far as i t wi l l go. Thedelay t ime is about 12 seconds after pressingthe start button 33.The shutter and self-t imer can be tensionedand released independently of each other.Hence the release button 12 can be used fordirect exposures even when the self-t imer istensioned, while the self t imer can run downwhen the shutter is not tensioned.The self-t imer is also useful for avoidingcamera shake with hand-held shots of stat icsubjects at exposure t imes of 1/n second orlonger.

After the exposure
Smooth ly and fu l ly ( ! ) pu l l out the rap id wind inglever 8 and let i t swing back into i ts start ingpos i t ion.This advances the f i lm by one frame, retensionsthe shutter and gets the camera ready for thenext shot. With rapid picture sequences thecamera may remain against the eye in shootingpos i t ion.The rapid winding lever can be worked in asingle stroke or in several (usually two) strokes;on lett ing i t go i t returns to i ts start ing posit ion.When not in use, fold i t back against thecamera body.The exposure counter 7 shows the number ofeposures made on the f i lm. The twentieth andthirty-sixth exposure (for 20-exposure and 36-exposure cartr idges) are marked in red; thesecond and al l subsequent odd numbers aremarked by dots. After the thirty-eighth ex-posure (also marked in red) the exposurecounter stops counting. Further exposures mayhowever st i l l be made i f the f i lm is long enough.The exposure counter 7 springs back to zeroon pu l l ing up the rewind knob 6.

Unloadlng the fllm
After the last exposure: swing out the rewindcrank 34, brief ly press in the rewind release 35and turn the crank 34 in the direct ion of thearrow unti l the resistance of the f i lm tensionsuddenly slacks off (during the next f i lm trans-port movement the rewind release 35 springsout again) .Fold in the crank 34 and pul l up the rewindknob 6. The camera back 5 springs open; swingi t fu l ly open. Fu l ly pu l l up the rewind knob 6and remove the f i lm cartr idge.
Unload the f i lm at least in the shadow of yourown body; avoid bri l l iant sun and dusty con-d i t ions.
Exposed f i lms (especial ly colour f i lms) shouldbe processed as soon as possible, as theyonly keep for a l imited t ime.

Selecting the best shutter speedlmage sharpness depends, among other th ings,on the use of a suff iciently fast shutter speed.

Changing the battery
Unscrew the cover 36 anti-clockwise with acoin. Remove the spent battery.Wipe the new battery on both sides with a clothto remove any oxide deposit. For maximumstabi l i ty the sequence of the set-up should be:camera - extension bel lows - extension tubes- lens; a vert ical arrangement is safest. Withthe ful l bel lows extension and several exten-sion tubes some vignett ing may occur (seealso table).
Final ly, for largest scales of reproduction withimproved optical qual i ty the combination: ca-mera - extension bel lows - extension tubes -retro adapter - lens is possible, provided thatsome vignett ing is acceptable (see also table).
