4 NANtuCKEt KNits for Kids
PuRL (P)An inverted knit stitch. This stitch is used alternately with the
knit stitch to produce different textures and patterns.
➤ HOW tO
step 1: Place the needle with the cast-on stitches in your
left hand. Hold the other needle in your right hand.
Making sure your working yarn is in the front of your
needles, insert the right hand needle through and under
the loop on the left-hand needle and towards you.
step 2: Grab the working yarn from the front of the
needles, and wrap the yarn around the back of the front
right-hand needle.
step 3: With the right
needle, catch the
yarn you have just
wrapped and pull it
under and through
the loop on your
left-hand needle
towards the back.
step 4: Take the first
loop off of your left-
hand needle.
Repeat this step and each subsequent stitch on your left-
hand needle until all stitches have been worked from the
left-hand needle.
When one row is
knit and one row is
purled, you create
the stitch pattern
seen to the left.
This is called
stockinette stitch.
BiND OFF (BO)Is used to finish an edge or segment of knitting. Just as
in casting on, there are many ways to bind off. This is the
most basic bind off method and my personal favorite.
➤ HOW tO
Knit the first stitch,
*knit the second st,
pass the first stitch
over the second.
Repeat from * to *.
This bind-off
method produces
a braided edge as
shown.
