excellent chemical resistance range: ph 2 to 10

STANDARD SEALS!

Protected against fibrous materialspinningaround the shaft

Monitoring:why ?!

- to avoid larger damage of pump and motor

- to give an early, preventive indication of wear, missing lubrication, etc

- to give indication for service, just when it is due: not to frequent, not to early, not to late

- to have the pump on an optimum availability

Reasons for High Temperature

- loss of one phase about doubles temperature rise in one coil of the stator

- voltage drop by 5 % increase stator temperature by 12 %

- voltage unbalance of 2 % can cause temperature rise of up to 30 % in one coil

- frequency increase to 52 instead of 50 Hz (VFD or genset) can cause a temperature rise of 12 %

- cooling problems may occur, by blockage, locked air and alike

TCS (THERMO CONTROL) - SYSTEM

Thermal sensors in every phase of the stator give a timely warning or switch off the pump automatically before the allowable temperature limit e.g. due to overloading, medium being too hot, dry running,or other problem sources has been exceeded.

Sensor for Temperature MonitoringBimetallic Switches „Klixons“

Temperature

ResistanceConnection into motor control: Take care not to exceed the allowable switching current;

can be fitted directly into the control circuit.

Application: Standard

Function: Temperature switch using the Bimetallic principle which snaps open at a rated temperature.

Sensors for Temperature Monitoring

Operating Principle of Thermo Contacts

Motor winding Thermo-sensorStandard: Thermo Contact

Upper and lower BearingStandard for AFP M 6 to M12Standard: Thermo Contacts

Thermo Contact (also called “Klixon”)

Bi-metallic switch that opens when temp goes up and closes when it goes down. Can break a high current

Have moving parts and not accuratebut cheap and not so easy to destroyduring testing

N.C. at temperature lower than e.g.110 deg. C

N.O. at temperature higher than e.g.140 deg. C

DI (SEAL MONITORING) - SYSTEM

DI sensors in the electronic seal monitoring system recognise the ingress of moisture into the oil chamber via the shaft seal.

The DI sensors give an early warning that moisture has entered and by means of a timely inspection prevent the failure of the unit.

Operating Principle of DI - Sensor

Moisture Sensor (in oil Standard)

An electrode gives a signal that must be connected to a relay to give an alarm. Can also be connected to a relay for stopping pump or give voltage free alarm to say PLC.

ABS - relais have integratedspecial filters against radio noise

Comparator relay

VUP Axial Flow Pumps4-pole motors with gearboxes

PROS:non wicking elastomer cable grommet• optimum efficiency can be matched to duty

point • good efficiency including gearbox

motor 94 to 95%

gearbox 97 to 98%

total about 92 to 93%• good power factor (cos phi)

about 0.83• needs only normal switchgear and

power factor correction• slim motors, small column-pipe diameters• low frictional losses of water pumped along

motor• no radial load on motorshaft by planetary gear

or hydraulic• no axial thrust on motorshaft• low in weight 5280 kg

CONS:• more rotating parts

Values from following examples:

VUP 1201 M 3000/4-81 G3,6

direct drive, 14-pole

CONS:• drive speed is fixed

optimum of efficiency cannot be varied

• no good efficiency

motor 90.5%

• bad power factor

about 0.59• big, uneconomical electrical switchgear

• big diameter of motor, wide column pipes needed

• high frictional losses of water along motor• full radial load on motorshaft

• full axial load on motorshaft• heavier 6900 kg

PROS:• less rotating parts

VUP 1201 M 3000/14-95

VUP: Limits of Application

all Axial Flow Pumps have an unstable operating range leftfrom part of curve shown ! This area is called “Rumor Area”

•never use VUP`s in area left from end of curve shown

•when using variable frequency drives, limit minimum frequency such, that unstable part of curve is not touching system curve

•never start VUP`s against closed valve

VUP Pumpshave excelent

NPSH - valuesthanks to their spherical hub, all propeller pumps with conical hub have worse NPSH!

VUP: always with power reserve !

• Propeller pumps have an increasing power demand

with increasing head (in contrary to radial pumps)

• Propeller pumps have small discharge heads: small mistakes in determining static head give relatively

high additional power demands (3 m, mistake of 0.3 m in

static head makes an additional power demand of 10 %)

• Propeller pumps have large deliveries: small misjudgements in frictional factors make relatively

large differences in frictional losses (2 m head, 2.6 m/s in pipe: k = 0.66 instead of 0.6 give 5 % higher power demand)

Comments on Vortex - Formation

AVS Anti-Vortex SystemBy making use of optimized pump sump dimen-sions (relationship of width to length), minimum wall distances and a profiled inflow chamber, all detrimental swirl and vortex formation is avoided. The dimensions are calculated precisely for every pump. Contact your ABS representative with your requirements.

AVS Anti-Vortex SystemAn end to the basic problems of inflow chambers for axial and semi-axial pumps - vortex and swirl formation.
