Exploration for diamonds, as this is in the vicinity of the original diamond find in the Wawa area by Miki Clement. The original diamond find is about 200 metres to the East of my exploration site. Access was by kayak. Purpose: Look for diamonds and diamond indicators Process:
1. Remove overburden 2. Collect soil samples 3. Screen soils and assess for diamond indicators 4. Process samples
Notes: 1. soil was placer/clay material 2. unable to take a GPS reading; see map for site location
July 11th 2011 Location: see sketch map #2
Activity: 1) general exploration of the sites for placer material that has magnetite
concentrations
July 12th 2011 Location: see sketch map # 1 and 2
Activity:
1) planning, setting up and marking layout of digging and sample gathering sites in area one and area two
July 1 ih 2011 Location: Area 1, Sites 1 to 7, see map# 1, sketch map# 1 GPS Readings: 47degrees 55.546N 084 degrees49.592 W
Activity:
47degrees 55.550N 084 degrees49.562 W 47degrees 55.544N 084 degrees49.485 W
1) removing overburden from previously marked sites in Area 1 2) collection of samples
Description of samples taken:
Area 1, site 1, sample #1: - Coarse-grained sand that is predominately brown in colour
Area 1, site 2, sample #1: - medium-grained sand with a high concentration of quartz particles
Area 1, site 3, sample #1: - Coarse-grained sand that is predominately brown in colour
Area 1, site 4, sample #1: - medium-grained sand with a high concentration of quartz particles
4
5
Area 1, site 5, sample #1: - Coarse-grained sand with a variety of different coloured crystals most
of which are brown and white
Area 1, site 6, sample #1: - medium-grained sand which is orange and brown in colour
July 20th and 22nd 2011 Location: Area 2, Site 1, trench line #1, see map#l, sketch maps #land 2 GPS: 47degrees 55.227N 084 degrees49.849 W
Activity: 1) remove over-burden 2) conducted trench line survey 3) examine different sand layers 4) collection of samples, processing samples and examination of samples
Description of samples taken:
Area 2, site 1, sample #1: - Coarse-grained sand with quartz and brown particles.
Area 2, site 1, sample #2: Lower level of trench - white medium grained sand
Notes: 1. Back- hoe was used to dig a trench to approximately 4 metres deep 2. Bed rock was not encountered 3. 4 distinct sand layers were observed
July27 and 29, 2011 Location: Area 2, Site 2, trench line #2, see map#l, sketch map#l and #2 GPS: 47degrees 55.229N 084 degrees49.768 W
Activity: 1) conducted trench survey 2) exposed different placer layers 3) collection of samples
6
4) examination and processing of the samples
Area 2, Site 2, trench 2, sample #1: - Coarse grained sand with quartz particles
Area 2, Site 2, trench 2, sample #2: mid-level of the trench - Deep brown sand with a quartz particles contained within it
Area 2, Site 2, trench 2, sample #3: Bottom level of the trench Fine sand/clay mixture grey in colour
Prospecting Results
In area two: site one; about 8ft. down an old river bed was discovered. This old river bed would be worthy of further exploration as the exploration area's geology was much different prior to hydro developments along the Michipicoten River.
Days of Prospecting
1) Area 1 =2 days 2) Area 2, site one =2 days 3) Area 2, site two =2 days 4) General Exploration: multi-sites= 2 days 5) Exploration near the original diamond site =2 days
Total days ofprospecting = 10 days@ $150.00= $1500.00
Total days drying, examining and processing samples and report writing= 1 day @ $150.00
TOTAL= $1650.00
