Project Summary Revisited

• To design and develop a dry-powder, single-dose, disposable inhaler

• To create a prototype that is self contained, ruggedly constructed, weather and water proof, lightweight, small, ergonomically designed, and actively mobile

• To be used by asthmatic individuals that desire a temporary alternative to traditional devices during physical activity and/or in extreme environment settings

Develop and computationallytest a prototypein Solidworks

Prototype Development Iterative Design Process

• Create Solid Model• Perform CFD (COSMOS)

• Physiologic boundary conditions• Obtain pneumatics within device consistent

with 5 m particle aerosolization

• Modify/refine the model• Re-perform CFD testing• Continue cycle until acceptable solid model

completed

Prototype Development Summary

• 9 solid models developed• Initial CFD indicated rotational flow

• Inefficient at dispersing and pneumatically transporting micron-sized particles

• Due to boundary conditions• Outlet velocity profile v. outlet pressure

• Proper boundary conditions implemented• Streamlined flow patterns observed• Model-8 rapid prototyped through Quickparts

Tasks to be Completed• Modify physical prototype – Steph will explain

why• Modify/Finalize Model-9• Order second Quickparts prototype• Finish the design report component of the

final deliverable document• Collaborate with my teammates on

developing the final presentation• Give the presentation• Graduate, May 1st
