Walter Rodney 1942-1980
Walter Rodney and InspirationTo talk about Pan-Africanism, to talk about international solidarity within the black world, whichever sector of the
black world we live in, we have a series of responsibilities. One of the most important is to define our own situation. A second responsibility is to present that definition to the other parts of the black world, indeed, to the whole of the
progressive world. A third responsibility… is to help others in a different section
of the black world to reflect on their own specific experience

Egypt at the crossroads of Pan Africanism and Pan Arabism
Pan Africanism “Pan” means all, so Pan Africanism includes
all people of African ancestry living in continental Africa and throughout the world. At the period of slavery when the ideas of inferiority of black humanity became one component of enlightenment thinking, Pan Africanism emerged as a complex set of ideas and ideologies containing social, cultural, political and spiritual aspects of dignity and liberation. Pan Africanism and the Lived Experiences of a People
“…though not cited in intellectual discourses that have so far come to be the literary cannon on Pan-Africanism, in their activism, as well as
participation, women were and have always been the heart of the Pan-Africanism’s essence, or if you like,
substance. My point is that Pan-Africanism may be seen as manifesting itself in two major ways, which are equally
important: through the movement itself and through its lived aspects. As a movement, Pan-Africanism has been characterized by fluctuation,
registering bouts of life and dormant lulls. On the other hand, its lived aspects, actual substance, or essence, have always remained alive and persistent over historical time. Ordinary people, or the masses,
including the majority of Africana women, have been the key keepers or carriers of this essence.”

Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown
#BlackLivesMatter
I created #BlackLivesMatter with Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi, two of my sisters, as a call to action for Black people after 17-year-old Trayvon Martin was post-humously placed on trial for his own murder and the killer, George Zimmerman, was not held accountable for the crime he committed. It was a response to the anti-Black racism that permeates our society and also, unfortunately, our movements.
Pan African creedBlack Lives Matter is an ideological and political intervention in a world where Black lives are systematically and intentionally targeted for demise. It is an affirmation of Black folks’ contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression
Alicia Garza and her sisters Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes. It goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within some Black communities, which merely call on Black people to love Black, live Black and buy Black, keeping straight is Black men in the front of the movement while our sisters, queer and trans and disabled folk take up roles in the background or not at all.
Black Lives Matter affirms the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, Black-undocumented folks, folks with records, women and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. It centers those that have been marginalized within Black liberation movements. It is a tactic to (re)build the Black liberation movement.
!
Spirit of the PeopleWhen the spirit of the oppressed people revolts against its oppressors, that revolt continues until freedom is achieved. We have not the arms with which to fight as the Americans did against the British, but we have the moral and spiritual forces at our disposal which outnumber all the physical weapons.
Kwame Nkrumah 1909-1972
It is now widely recognized that Pan-Africanism needs to leave the confines of conferences and executive mansions of our leaders and become part and parcel of all our lives building from the down-up
Recognizing the Youth potential
How to dynamize the demographic dividend?
We rededicated ourselves to the enduring Pan African vision of “an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representinga dynamic force in the global arena.”

Pan African Education
Pan African education is the education that encourages initiative, curiosity, cultural awareness, responsibility, respect for collective rules and a taste for menial work. There is a need for education that inspires the self confidence of Africans.

Unity and Diversity
We should not see unity as an imagined uniformity. Unity instead should be expressed through the multiplicities of diversities. Universality then becomes the “unitary significance of our diverse diversities. Albert Einstein
