In this MACH 2018 Product Launch Review,
there are some 70 suppliers listed offering
around 180 products that were highlighted
as launched at the exhibition, got their fi rst
major UK public airing or were otherwise
‘fresh’. While we won’t claim to have captured
everything at the biennial event, there is no
other such comprehensive listing published.
Of course, for those Machinery-relevant items
that have been missed, we are happy to hear
from their suppliers, so that we can give
coverage to these in future issues.

460 mm) uses production-grade nylon materials
for ready-to-use functional parts and complete
assemblies ● DMP 8500 Factory Solution is the
“fi rst truly scalable, automated and fully
integrated metal additive manufacturing
solution”. It can produce metal parts up to 500
by 500 by 500 mm, the “largest diameter build
size in the industry” ● 3D Expert Software
supports AM machine program creation, taking
in a deformation analysis module to guide
support positioning, as well as subtractive
machining program generation (Cimatron
software), in a single, integrated package.
Mixing of different build parameters (zoning) in a
single program is a claimed unique feature.
Geo Kingsbury Machine Tools
● Geo Kingsbury’s new Additive Manufacturing
division offers production solutions based on
the powder-bed additive techniques that
Michelin developed for tyre mould production
(350 by 350 by 350 mm build volume) via

was highlighted is able to serve two machines.
It features separate input and output conveyors
(one above the other); parts are placed manually
on the top conveyor in a uniform manner, as
regards spacing and orientation; the system is
very easily programmed to ‘see’ parts and grip
them in the same place each time. Maximum
robot capacity is 20 kg and ABB says this
solution can increase machine tool utilisation by
up to 60%, while reducing operating costs.

reposition the robot in front of the machine, with
the robot’s vision system then used to calibrate
position, using an orientation plate fi xed to the
machine. With the robot in place, parts are
presented to it via a storage trolley.
CADCAM, CNC, INDUSTRY 4.0
Autodesk
● FeatureCAM 2019 includes a strategy that
allows turning in all directions with the same
insert, boosting insert life and metal removal
rates. In addition, for sliding-head machine
programming, fi xed-angle toolholders can now
be used, avoiding the need for coordinate
transformation
(video: https://is.
gd/azovex)
● PowerMill 2019
focuses on three
key areas:
enhancing existing
functionality for
high effi ciency
machining; adding
technology from
the wider family of
Autodesk software
that can benefi t
PowerMill users; developing completely new
technology in support of new processes. On the
latter, PowerMill 2019 provides a dedicated
suite of additive strategies and simulation tools
to support hybrid additive/subtractive machining
via PowerMill Additive (picture above shows
additive welding technology). And PowerMill’s
high effi ciency roughing strategy, Vortex, has
been improved. In a test, a P20 tool steel mould
was machined in in 32 min 33 sec versus its
predecessor’s 48 min 28 sec, a saving of 33%
● PowerInspect 2019 includes
the ability to clip point clouds,
automatically rejecting
unwanted points below a
specifi ed clipping plane when
acquiring point data using a
laser scanning device. Also
added is the ability to switch

the locally installed offl ine help
from within the software. And
reports optionally sent to Autodesk when
PowerInspect closes because of an error help
the fi rm improve the product.
CGTech
● Vericut Force is a physics-based optimisation
method that determines the maximum reliable
feed rate for a given cutting condition, based on
four key factors: force on the cutter, spindle
power, maximum chip thickness and maximum
allowable feed rate. This benefi ts cycle time,
tool life and machine longevity.
Citizen Machinery UK
● App designed for iOS and Android that
displays machine information. The UK company
has developed a control connection using the
MTConnect standard interface that means more

● Industry 4.0 HELLER4Industry solutions,
including HELLER4Performance that includes
workpiece-specifi c analysis for process
optimisation and extraction of real-time data
over the internet, plus evaluation and graphical
display in the cloud. It could, for example, map
toolpaths and workpiece tolerances in parts of a
cycle where tool wear is expected. That section
of the sequence would be simulated on the
machine without cutting metal, so the paths
actually traversed by the tool could be recorded
and compared with the workpiece design.
The ability of the machine to actually produce
the part to the required accuracy could then be
determined. Also within this module is
optimisation of cutter positions inside a rack
tool magazine, which offers to reduce cycle
times by up to 20%.
