H3BO3 - Boric Acid
CAS Number: 10043-35-3
Technical Grade: Granular and Powder
Packaging: 25 kg, 50 kg, 1 ton (with or without pallet)
Boric acid, also called boracic acid or orthoboric acid, is a weak acid of boron and its chemical formula is H3BO3 (sometimes written B(OH)3), and exists in the form of white powder that dissolves in water. Boric is obtained from the reaction of colemanite and sulphuric acid or borax and a mineral acid, such as hydrochloric acid.
Some Applications and Benefits
Fiberglass and Glass Boric acid is used in the manufacture of special type of fiberglass ( furnace glass, laboratory glass materials ex.). It prevents devitrification in glass production. It increases durability property of glass against heat, chemicals, and mechanical effects. Boric acid is used in the production of one-filament fiberglass (textile type fiberglass). Textile type fiberglass is used in strengthening of plastics of many applications such as industrial pipes to computer cards.
It increases fiberisation in insulation and strengthening fiberglass by decreasing viscosity. It controls featly the relationship between temperature, viscosity and fiberisation. Boron also reduces the tendency of crystallization and increases the strength of the fibers and
resistance against moisture. Boric acid creates fairly powerful viscosity effect. The comprise of fiberglass could change according to produced fiber type. ‘E-glass’ which has the low alkaline property is the most widely consumed type of fiberglass. Because of its low fragility property of E-glass , it comprises of nearly 90% of fiberglass consumption worldwide.

Meanwhile, 5-12 % boron oxide (B2O3) is used to produce many other glass types such as standard and borosilicate glasses.
Ceramic Boric acid has importance because of its binder property at main composition of ceramic glazes. In the conclusion of adding of boric acid to compound, melting and adhesion occur at lower temperature. It increases refraction and abrasion resistance against to physical impacts in ceramics products by increasing mechanical and chemical resistance, it strengths resistance in chemical environment and at the same time it creates environment for encoloring additives.
Detergent Boric acid, a boron source, is used in different areas such as disinfectant and bleaching agent. It could add to soap and detergents because of having water softening and disinfectant properties. It produces the property of decreasing washing time and temperature. Agriculture Boron is an essential nutrient for plant growth. It has essential role in a plants reproductive cycle, controlling flowering, pollen production, and seed development. Boric acid can be used for soils having low amount of boron as alone or mixed with usual fertilizers. It is also used as raw material to produce Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate which is known as boron fertilizer. Furthermore, it is used in production of agricultural pesticide that provides clearing out of undesirable herbs. Nuclear Energy Boric acid is used in nuclear power plants as a neutron poison to slow down the rate at which fission is occurring. Fission chain reactions are generally driven by the amount of neutrons present. Natural boron consists of 20% boron-10 and nearly 80% Bor-11. Boron-10 has a high cross-section for absorption of low energy (thermal) neutrons. By adding more boric acid to the reactor coolant which circulates through the reactor, the probability that a neutron can survive to cause fission is reduced. Therefore, changes in boric acid concentration effectively regulate the rate of fission taking place in the reactor. This method is only used in pressurized water reactors (PWRs). Boric acid is also used in weak fuel pools containing uranium rods in order to control neutron reproduction. Impregnate and Preservation Boric acid is used in preventing of wet and dry timbers from rotting. It can be used in combination with an ethylene glycol carrier to treat external wood against fungal and insect attack. It is possible to make use of borate-impregnated rods for insertion into wood via drill holes where dampness and moisture properties. It is available in a gel form and injectable paste form. Concentrates of borate-based treatments can be used to prevent slime, mycelium, and algae growth, even in marine environments. Boric acid and salt mixture is used in the curing of cattle hides, calfskins, and sheepskins. This helps to control bacteria development, and helps to control insects. Medical Boric acid can be used as an antiseptic for small burns or cuts. Also, it is used in dressings or salves. Boric acid is applied in a very dilute solution as an eye wash. Dilute boric acid can be used to remove bacterias ( eg. bacterial vaginosis). As an antibacterial compound, boric acid can also be used as an acne treatment. It is also used in socks of sporters in order to prevent of occurring of bacterias in their feet. Furthermore, as a solution it can be used to treat some kinds of otitis externa (ear infection) in both humans and animals

Insecticidal Boric acid is used for control of cockroaches, termites, fire ants, fleas, silverfish, and many other insects. The product is generally considered to be safe to use in household kitchens to control cockroaches and ants. It acts as a stomach poison affecting the insects' metabolisms, and boric acid powder kills them having abrasive impact on insects' exoskeletons. Lubrication Colloidal suspensions of nanoparticles of boric acid dissolved in petroleum or vegetable oil can
form a remarkable lubricant on ceramic or metal surfaces and it decreases coefficient of
friction considerably. Self-lubricating H3BO3 films result from a spontaneous chemical reaction between water molecules and B2O3 coatings in a humid environment
