HAQUATIC PHOBIA

Direct learning Experience - A kin-esthetic origin and personally expe-rienced through once body, doing it, feeling it, physically experiencing it.

Indirect learning Experiences - Visual modality origin, through witness-ing an incident, seeing a film (Titanic, Crocs and Sharks Piranhas Wild life Documentaries!), dreams...

Auditory Modality Origin - through reading, talking about it, hearing (The film music-Jaws,) story telling.

Subconscious learning - learning to fear water environment has mani-fested itself subconsciously through negative early childhood experiences, our dreams, secondary gains, positive intentions (protective) - the needs of the part responsible for our negative feelings and behaviour in the pres-ence of larger mass-volume of water (pools, lakes, seas, oceans).

Origins of aquatic phobia Treatment of aquatic phobia

Find a friend who you are comfortable with to accompany you into the water. Your partner need not be an expert in water or swimming and can be at the same level as you in water.Support and motivation is very important.

Start by spending some time near the water. Play ball at the beach or take a walk near the lake.Take it at your own pace. This trains the brain that water is not dangerous and could be fun.

Feel the water.Sit near the swimming pool dipping your legs alone in the water. Continue doing this for sometime till you’re comfortable with water.

Try to get into a swimming pool or a pond which is shallow. Make sure the water level is not above your waist. You do not want to have the feeling of drowning or choking .Relax and breathe normally.

Consider hypnotherapy or a Neuro-linguistic pro-gram to dispel your fear of water.
