Potential Problems of the installation of computer

hardwareBy George Smith-Moore

Potential ProblemsO The potential problems that could

occur when installing computer hardware can be numerous. But the most common are…O Component DamageO Loss of DataO Not Compatible

Component Damage!O This is one of the biggest forms of

computer component damage. The damage can come from many things, such as: electrostatic discharge and incorrect installation.O Electrostatic discharge is a big

‘killer’ of computer components, it can be done by not wearing anti-static equipment.

O Incorrect installation would usually damage the connectors, this would be placing a cable or component in the wrong socket; for example.

Loss of DataO By installing a piece of

hardware incorrectly you could damage the component, this could mean that the data inside could be lost.

O An example would be when a hard-drive is being transferred to another machine; this is why you should back-up all data.

Not CompatibleO A device not being

compatible with the system is a big problem; for instance you may have a DDR2 motherboard but DDR3 RAM. There is a difference and so it is not compatible with each other.

O Another example is: an PCIe x16 graphics card; you may not have the slot to accommodate this (a PCIe x1 slot will not work).
