CRANIOTOMY IS COMPOSED OF THREE PARTS:

PRIVACY AND DIGNITY OF THE PATIENTMAINTAINING STERILITY DURING THE

PROCEDURE HAVING ALL THE NECESSARY EQUIPMENTS NEEDED SET UP

1. Privacy and dignity of the patient

* introduce the theatre team to the patient as soon as he/she enters the anaesthetic room

* make sure the patient is covered throughout the procedure

* put signs on all theatre doors to prevent people from coming in

2. Maintaining sterility during the procedure

* make use of the appropriate drape for the patient

* follow the theatre setup for an awake craniotomy

* make sure all the leads and cables are the right length and not too long that it might fall to the floor

3. Having all the necessary equipment needed set up

* discuss with the theatre team prior to operation what special equipment is needed
