“From our perspective,
PRINCE2 Agile has allowed us
to better manage the change
being delivered to the
customer.”“This is not about having a certificate on a wall,
it is about enabling project teams to work…to a
consistently high standard in delivering our
Partner’s projects to serve people in need.”

• Direct community feedbacko Focus on practical
implementation
o “I don’t want waterfall”
o Professional development
• AXELOS researcho Project Management as a
business wide skill
o Projects cannot be managed in isolation: Programs and portfolios where its at!
o AGILE!! Flexibility is key
• Last major update to PRINCE2 was 2009
Why Update PRINCE2?
The Problem Statement(s)
Nothing fundamentally wrong but:
• Tailoring is not visible enough
• There is no explicit guidance on organizations adopting PRINCE2
• Balance so it is less process biased
• Not explicit on pre and post project activities, e.g. benefits
• Change theme launches straight into configuration management
• Rationalize plans into one place
• More practical considerations
• Compliance of risk theme with M_o_R®.

How PRINCE2 2017 practitioners can remain current
Less emphasis on processes
More emphasis on principles,
themes, especially tailoring
• PRINCE2 can already be tailored
to:
– the role of the Project
Manager
– the project in hand
– the needs of the organization
• PRINCE2 is NOT a waterfall
approach to Project Management
• Tailoring now a thread running
throughout method & exams
