PRESENT SIMPLE

• USES

We use the Present Simple to talk about things that happen regularly.

I read the newspaper every morning

We use the Present Simple to talk about things which are always true.

• FORMATION

1. Affirmative form: Subject + base of the verb

(he / she / it add –s)

I eat pasta every SundayThey listen to music the evening

BUT…He eats pasta every Sunday

She listens to music in the evening

• SPELLING RULES FOR THE 3rd PERSON SINGULAR

We add -S to the base of the verb

BUT…

Have turns into hasVerbs ending in -s / -sh / -ch / -z / -x / -o add -ES

Verbs ending in CONSONANT + -Y: we change –y to –i and add –ES

2. Negative form:Subject + don’t / doesn’t + base of the verb

I don’t eat vegetablesThey don’t listen to music in the evening

BUT…

He doesn’t eat pastaShe doesn’t listen to music in the evening

3. Interrogative form:do / does + subject + base of the verb

Do you like pasta?Where do you live?

BUT…

Does he like pasta?Where does he live?
