The Fiji Nursing Association is the ONLY Professional Nursing Association that represents the voice of the nurses in this country.

(Quote- Mr. S. Rabuka. A. G. 2006.)

With membership of 1,400 out of the 1,800 nurses in this country, the F. N. A stands on behalf of its members as reflected in the logo- “CARING IS OUR CONCERN.”

The key word in nursing practice today is- CARING where one will only have to add in Quality, Excellence and Holistic to caring in order to be certain that you are delivering the best care to your patient or client.

Advocacy can be defined as the act of pleading or arguing in favour of something. In terms of nursing, advocacy can be seen as the process we engage in when we speak on behalf of our patients when they are incapable of doing so themselves.

Advocacy can take many forms. It can be political, as when nurses immerse themselves in the politics of health care in order to bring about needed change. It can also be social, such as when we attempt to create change in our society that helps to educate others on issues in health care. Advocacy also occurs on a more personal level when we argue for the best interests of our patients.

The International Council of Nurses is a federation of 169 national nursing federations representing the millions of nurses worldwide, operated by nurses. The ICN is the international voice of nursing and works to ensure quality care for all and sound health policies globally.
