Evaluation of a music video
Moonlight shadow – Mike Oldfield
Like most music videos we see a shot of the
singer. This is a generic convention as its used to
promote the artist or show who the artist is.
Another generic convention is that the lyrics
match up with the visuals, in this shot we can
clearly see a shadowy man holding a gun at
night which matches the line; “All she saw was a
silhouette of a gun”.
We can see shots of the band through out the
video, this is an example of the drummer. Using
this technique helps pull away from the narrative
and jump scenes more fluidly as well as promote
the band.
When there are no lyrics and just an instrumental
it is easier to fill the gap with shots of the
instrument playing than using a narrative. Here
we see a close up shot of the guitar.
