Transcript of Presentation Maine Usa

Standish-OldRedColonialChurch1

• This is one of several colonial-period landmarks (early European settlers in the US) in our town. The church does several traditional colonial services in the summer months.

Standish-IceFishingonSebagoLake2

• We don't ice fish but it's a very popular Maine tradition. These ice shacks are on Sebago Lake during the coldest months of January and February.

Standish-IceSailBoatonSebagoLake3

• It is really fun to watch this ice sailboat glide across the ice on Sebago.

blueberrypicking • About 90% of all wild

blueberries come from Maine. We have lots in our backyard and often go to a nearby farm to pick enough to freeze for the winter, usually about 20 pounds.

• It is popular to go to farm and "pick your own" fruit. It is a very inexpensive way to eat healthy, locally grown food for us.

Augusta-StateHouse

• The Maine State House in Augusta.

Augusta-StateHouse inside

• A view of the inside of the dome in the State House.

• Inside the House of Representatives chambers

MapleSugarSunday-CollectingSap

• Sap is collected in metal buckets attached to maple trees with a spout that is hammered into the tree trunk. That spout allows the sap to drain from the tree into the buckets.

Making maple syrup

• Bottling maple syrup

• There's only a small area in the world

that can make maple syrup

Delorme

• Delorme is a really interesting map store in Yarmouth. The large globe rotates at the same speed as the earth actually does.

Inside Delorme• Inside Delorme. The globe model is called,

"Eartha."

WatchicLake &PresumpscotRiverPaddleBoatRide

Watchic Lake is one of 4 places we enjoy swimming in our town. We're surrounded by clean lakes and rivers.

• The Presumpscot River in the summer.
