Our initiative includes landscape architects, biologists, ecologists, architects, naturalists, urbanist, engineers, lawyers, economists, journalists, academics, activists, leaders of community organizations, common and influential people in local, regional and international organizations. The recognition, valuation, protection, management, and sustainable planning of Latin American landscapes are fundamentally multidisciplinary, and the diversity in our collective honors this fact.

The World Environmental Hubs project is characterized by a unique environmental governance system for capacity building and knowledge sharing. It acts as a bridge between national, regional and local governments and facilitates interaction between key international organizations, urban planners, policy makers, landscape

developers, the private sector, citizens and other key stakeholders. The project will build on existing networks and knowledge as well as IUCN’s global expertise.

Turning to the cultural sector helped the Colombian city of Medellin, which was plagued by endemic violence in the 1990s, diminish violence by 80% in a dramatic turnaround. In 2011, 30% of the city’s budget was invested in education, culture, and urban landscape. New cultural infrastructures gave

access to culture to all. A new urban landscape succeeded in bringing residents together, through the creation of open and green spaces.

Urbanism, Architecture, Landscape Design, as catalyst to urban violence. Through these professions working in synergy, cities have the ability to transform on a societal level, with Medellín standing as a true

testament to this notion.
