Zebra Crossing
A small town had a long-running contest to find the strongest man around. In order to win the $500 prize, a contender had to prove his strength. First, they would squeeze a lemon until all the juice was removed. Anyone who could get one more drop from the lemon would win. Many people had tried, but no one had ever done it.
One summer day, a small, skinny man walked into the fair and said, “I’d like to try the bet.” Everyone laughed at first, then fell completely silent as the man clenched his fist around the lemon and four drops fell out.
As the banker counted out five hundred dollars, he asked, “So what do you do for a living? Are you a lumberjack or a weight lifter or what?”
No,” the man replied, “I work for the Tax Department.”
Feat of Strength
The policeman spotted a jay walker and decided to challenge him : “Why are you trying to cross here when there’s a zebra crossing only fifty feet away?”
“Well” replied the jay walker, “I hope it’s having better luck than me.”

The dark spots on the moon are caused by basins on the moon filled with basalt.
The moon reaches a temperature of 243 degrees F at midday on the lunar equator. At night, the temperature drops to -261 degrees.
The Sea of Tranquility is on the moon, but is not a real sea. It is a “maria,” one of the regions that ap-pear dark when looking at it.
Spring in the world! And all things are made new! ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds, I would pick more daisies. ~ Nadine Stair
To leave a legacy behind - isn't that what we all wish for? When you actively work on your own happiness and role in this world, people will remember you as one who led a good life, and will use you as an example. By fulfilling your own dreams you have not only taken - you have given back. Terry Fox, Rick Hanson, Mother Teresa are all well-known public figures. But the people who made the greatest impact in your life are likely not well known. A teacher who believed in you, a grandparent who always had time for you, a friend who spurred on your best efforts when you were discouraged. These are the people who leave a legacy behind. Whose impact do your remember? People remember those who make them feel good. And not only make them feel good- but also teach them how they can make themselves feel good. If we all try to leave a legacy behind in little ways every day, our community will not only be a happier place, but one which produces people of worth.
Seamus was trimming a hedge when a big car drew up beside him. An Englishman leaned out the window and said, “Can you tell me way to Balbriggan, please?”
“Certainly,” said Seamus. “You take the first road to the right. No, that is not it. No, drive on for about three miles and then turn left at the crossroads. Wait, that will not do either.”
Seamus scratched his head thoughtfully. “You know, sir, if I was going to Balbriggan, I wouldn’t start from here at all.”

A Fresh Perspective
John G. Miller Author of ... ‘QBQ! The Question Behind the Question®’, ‘Flipping the Switch ... Unleash the Power of Personal Accountability’, ‘Outstanding! 47 Ways to Make Your Organization Exceptional’,
http://www.qbq.com/ Denver, Colorado, USA 303-286-9900 John@QBQ.com
Does my organization have an accountability problem? The best way to answer this outstanding question is to take The QBQ!
Challenge. At my organization ... •Whenmistakesaremade, dopeopleask,"Whodroppedtheball?"•Whenuncertaintyreigns, dopeopleask,"Whenarethey gonna tell us what's going on?"•Whenchangehappens, dopeopleask,"Whydowehavetogo through all this change?"•Whenexecsdisseminatetheguidingvaluesforall, dopeopleask, "Why don't they walk their talk?"•Whenothersdon'tfollowthrough, dopeopleask,"Whenwill that department do its job right?"•Whenthereismuchtodo, dopeopleask,"Whydon'totherspull their own weight?"•Whentheteamisstruggling, domanagersask,"Whyaren'tmy people motivated?"•Whenresourcesaretight, dopeopleask,"Whenwillwegetmore tools?"•Whenthejobisdifficult, dopeopleask,"Who'sgoingtotrainme?"•Whencompetitorssurpassusintechnology, dopeopleask,"Why
don't we have better systems?"•Whencommunicationsuffers,dopeopleask,"Whydon'ttheycom-
municate better?"•Whenbudgetsandbenefitsarecut,dopeopleask,"Whyaretheydo-
ing this to us?"•Whenrecruiting,domanagersask,"Whenarewegoingtofind
better people?"Now, since this isn't a science, I would just say if you answered YES to
even a few of these questions, there is a most likely a need for making PER-SONAL ACCOUNTABILITY a core value.
But what does that mean? People speak often about organizational "culture." A working defini-
tion of this well-worn term might be: Shared values and acceptable norms
of behavior. It's the way we as individuals—collectively comprising the organization—think, feel, and act. Culture is about how we treat each other, respond to each other, and support each other—or how we don't. It's characterized by behaviors that are allowed and considered normal and those that aren't.
If we pass The QBQ! Challenge above, then we've already made Personal Accountability (PA) a cultural core value. This means we've embraced PA as an idea or principle to the extent that we utilize it to shape our behavior and thinking. Organizations that pass The QBQ! Challenge are outstand-ing because they're made up of individuals that have decided to exhibit PA in all they do. People working together as teams, departments, branch offices,districts,andorganizationshaveconsciouslycommittedtothees-sential discipline of PA. Said differently, during those precious times they interact with colleagues, staff, and superiors, as well as the paying custom-ers—we call them moments—they think and act accountably. When the ball is dropped, a peer commits an error, a random event blocks a goal, miscommunication takes place, and change happens, accountable people pause and ask The Question Behind the Question (QBQ), "What can I do to contribute?" and "How can I make a difference?"
If your culture is like this, I say outstanding! When we each choose to ask questions like the two above—over time—we create a culture where personal accountability is valued, honored, and practiced. That is when PERSONAL ACCOUNTABILITY has become a core value.
However, organizations that fail The QBQ! Challenge have a culture characterized by Blame, Victim Thinking, Entitlement, Complaining, and Procrastination—but probably don't even know it. And that lack of awareness is a costly problem. But unawareness can be penetrated simply by taking The QBQ! Challenge.
So bring The QBQ! Challenge to your team. Work through it and decide where your organization stands. Don't worry if your organizational culture fails today. That's okay, there's always tomorrow. With the right tools and training—and time—any organization can make personal ac-countability a core value!

Every year, the Michigan Lawsuit Abuse Watch (M-LAW) organization holds a contest to find the wackiest warning labels on products, intended to highlight the potential for frivolous lawsuits. In recent years, companies have been coming up with more and more warnings on their products in the hopes of protecting themselves from lawsuits by consumers who have used their products in ridiculous ways. Since 1997, they've been collecting submis-sions for their Wacky Warning Label Contest, with submissions including the funniest warning labels around. Here is a sampling of some past winners:
On a bottle of drain cleaner: "If you do not understand, or cannot read all directions, cautions and warnings, do not use this product."
On a snow sled: "Beware: sled may develop high speed under certain snow conditions."
On a 12-inch-high compact disc storage rack: "Do not use as a ladder."
Five Ways to Overcome Your Hate of Exercise Everyone knows that exercise is a good way to keep your weight down
and to increase your general health and well-being. But what do you do if you hate to exercise? Instead of just giving up, try to make exercise a routine. We may hate to do laundry or get the oil changed in our car, but we do it anyway. Why? Well, it becomes part of our routine. Add exercise to your list of things that must get done each week.
