• 2-Methyl-2-propanol(tertiary alcohol) reacts with Lucas reagent (anhyd ZnCl2 + HCl) giving turbidity immediately.

• (CH3)3C-OH + anhyd ZnCl2 + HCl → (CH3)3C-Cl

• Turbidity immediately

CH3—CH(CH3)—OH + 4I2 + 6NaOH → CHI3 + CH3COONa + 5NaI + 5H20
