activity

How would you characterize it? What it smooth sailing or rocky seas? In the midst of leading, how did they tend to their relationship with God? What happened when they lost that focus? What practices were important to them? How did those practices foster their relationship with God?

Choose a leader in the Bible and reflect on their relationship with

God.

activitymake of list of leadership ideas in John 21:15-19

15 When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”    “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”    Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”  16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”    He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”    Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”  17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”    Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”    Jesus said, “Feed my sheep. 18 Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 19 Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which Peter would glorify God. Then he said to him, “Follow me!” (New International Version)

1) Jesus is speaking to Peter. Jesus KNOWS that Peter betrayed him…and he doesn’t worry about. He knows his sin and rather than confront him, he asks him a relational question, “Do you love me?”

2)Once Peter responds, Jesus gives him his “orders” or work assignment – feed my lambs. What does that mean?

leadership in ministryservant leadership – it’s not about you and it’s about you

Your role as a servant leader is to help God’s people join in the work God is already up to in this world. It’s about tending your own discipleship journey AND helping young people do that same. Yes, there are some gifts and skills and practices that help us do that. But what’s at the heart of being a servant leader is - You love God and seek to feed God’s lambs.
