is responsible for:

The actors of the Electricity market in Lithuania:• Eligible customers (since 2002 – 20 GWh per year, since

2003 –9 GWh per year, since 2010 – all customers)• Public suppliers – undertakings having in ownership a

distribution system having an obligation to supply electricity to captive consumers in its area ;

• Independent suppliers – who are the Supply License holder and who are permitted to sell electricity to Eligible customers at contractual prices;

• Producers – having generation facilities and permits for production;

2. to integrate the power system into the power systems of EU;

3. to further develop regional co-operation and creating a common Baltic electricity market;

4. to strive for a share of renewables of up 7% in the total electricity production balance by 2010.

Energy related research potential:

1. Lithuanian Energy Institute (www.lei.lt) with 10 laboratories.

2. Kaunas University of Technology (www.ktu.lt) with:

• Department of Thermal and Nuclear Energy and Centre of Industrial Energy Process Analysis and Integration,

• Department of Electric Power Systems and Centre of High Voltage Device Diagnostic Technology.
