– Founded in 1905 in Dresden to 1913

– Dominated by paintings of one of its founders Ernst Kirchner (1880-1938)

– Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Fritz Bleyl were founding members

– Emil Nolde (Emil Hansen) was a member for a brief period of time.

– By the end of Die Brücke in 1913 there were 75 ‘associate members’ from the Netherlands to Czechoslovakia
