Possessive nouns are used to show ownership.

Dad’s car isfor sale!

The doctor’s coat is white.The word “doctor's" is the possessive noun. It tells you that the noun “coat" belongs to the doctor. The doctor owns, or possesses the coat. Add 's to the end of a singular noun to make it possessive.

The kite’s string got stuck in a tree.

kite + 's The string belongs

to the kite.

The children's costumes were cute.
