PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
This position is responsible for up-holding the Counties Manukau Health (CMH) shared values and reputation. It also includes responsibility for the protection and safety of staff, patients, visitors and
the security and protection of CMH Property and assets.

To comply with the conditions set out in the Security Services Collective Employment contract
Comply at all times with all lawful directions, standard operating procedures and policies relevant to the duty of Security officer
Be punctual in reporting for duty at least ten minutes prior to the start of your shift in order to receive briefing from outgoing security staff on matters concerning your shift
Present a clean, neat and tidy appearance while on duty in uniform
Perform all duties to the best of your ability in accordance with standard operating procedures and policies
Protect the health, safety and welfare of Counties Manukau Health’s staff, patients and visitors and also ensure the security of the assets and building at all times
Deal with staff, patients and visitors in accordance with the high standard of ethics as set out in the Counties Manukau Health Codes of Conduct
Deal with all incidents that occur in a professional, courteous and helpful manner, whilst bearing in mind the need to achieve a secure outcome at all times
Report all events, which are of either a serious nature or may require further investigation. All such reports must be completed as soon as possible after the conclusion of the incident in order that the facts are recorded accurately and correctly and must be completed before the end of the shift
To always bear in mind that officers have only limited powers, and are not Police. In the event that a situation cannot be contained or handled safely, the Police will be called and staff, patients and visitors removed or protected until their arrival.
All officers must ensure that once they are trained, they remain updated with all forms of electronic surveillance equipment used on the sites, and also undertake to keep themselves up to date with all other forms of training needed to perform their duties to the

optimum level. The company will provide training in First Aid, CPR, Fire Safety, Calming and Restraining, Cultural Awareness and Customer Service.
Observe work areas and construction sites and the activities of staff and contractors. Report through appropriate channels any apparent breaches of the Health and Safety in Employment Act and related Regulations, Policies and Procedures.
Assist staff in the identification and reporting of hazards, significant or otherwise and where appropriate take steps consistent with personal safety to eliminate, isolate, minimise, reduce or control such hazards until professional assistance arrives.
Preserve the scene of all accident or crime sites until the appropriate authorities have examined them and authorised them to be used again.
Reporting persistent breaches of policy relating to Occupational Safety.
Assessing the urgency of certain maintenance faults as required prior to calling out lift engineers, plumbers, carpenters or other specialist tradespeople
Observing and noting suspicious persons or activities and reporting through appropriate channels
Being directly involved in the preparation and response to disasters, major casualty incidents and emergencies
Ensure the protection of staff, patients, visitors and property by:
Ensuring that no action or inaction of an employee while at work causes harm to any other person
Protecting staff from physical attack, abuse or intimidation and assisting in the management of potentially violent situations, whilst at all times being mindful of your own safety and the safety of others
Maintaining liaison with local Police, Fire and other Emergency Services while they are on site

Ensuring the orderly flow of Traffic on Counties Manukau Health property by requiring reasonable compliance with the Transport Act, Traffic Regulations and Traffic by–laws
Providing support for the control, distribution and internal escort for bulk transfer of Dangerous Drugs and other Dangerous Materials and Equipment
Contribute to the safety and security of all personnel, patients, visitors and assets of Counties Manukau Health, by fostering co-operation across all groups and in all the sites which make up the company
Fire Duties
Conducting regular security patrols and being alert for potential fire hazards and / or contraventions of established fire protection policy requirements
Being pro-active in the detection and prevention of fire, reporting to the assembly points and working under the direction of the senior NZ Fire Service Officer on the scene
Controlling the movement of people where fire is suspected and assisting in the evacuation where a positive alarm is sounded
Working under the control the Security Manager or other authorised persons in the conduct of regular fire drills and disaster exercises

Emergency Services while they are on site Situations may often call for tact, diplomacy and will require information to be handled in a discreet and sensitive manner. In conflict situations will be required to exercise sound judgement, negotiation and persuasiveness skills, toward facilitating a workable outcome.
PROBLEM COMPLEXITY
Will be regularly challenged by a wide range of challenging and volatile situations / incidents. There will be a requirement to be able to prioritise issues and negotiate time frames, while still providing a quality customer service. The range of problems will be diverse and require solutions customised to meet the circumstances of the client. Therefore opportunities will arise to provide innovative options to the client based on proven outcomes. There will be demands to meet deadlines, maintain accuracy and quality of information. Failure to do so could impact on the organisation in terms of service delivery and the security of the complex. Will refer to Security Manager for advice or second opinion.
SCOPE FOR ACTION
Are empowered to make decisions or recommendations relating to relating to general incidents, are encouraged to use initiative and problem solving skills to develop innovative approaches to issues. However no changes to policy will be made without reference to the Security Manager. Discretion is required to be exercised in releasing confidential information to the appropriate parties.

Full clean and current NZ Drivers Licence
No police convictions
Level 3 national certificate in security or working towards it.

Previous Security/Forces or Police experience
At least 2 years’ experience in Security in a wide range of settings. Eg: Static, Patrols, escorting, CCTV monitoring and investigations.
Skills/Knowledge/ Behaviour

Ability to operate modern security technology, i.e. cameras, radio pagers, electronic locking apparatus and basic computer systems

HEALTH AND SAFETY ACCOUNTABILITIES (Management roles) Health and Safety (H&S) is a key accountability of all Counties Manukau Health (CM Health) staff. All CM Health Managers are responsible to:
Zero harm Engage in safe workplace practices and manage the health and safety of your employees and other people in the workplace
Engage in safe work practices
Ensure all Incidents involving staff are reported, investigated and any corrective actions are completed and closed off when completed in the Incident reporting system in line with CM Health Policies and Procedures
Ensure all corrective activities are completed and controls are reviewed after incidents
Ensure all staff are Inducted/Oriented to the division/service/work area and recorded in the Onestaff database and participate in Occupational Health and Safety matters
Risk management Manage all hazards, risks and incidents in the workplace by identifying, evaluating, reporting and controlling them effectively by maintaining a Hazard and Risk Register that is reviewed and kept up to date on an ongoing basis
Stop work where there is an immediate risk of serious harm and escalate to the appropriate manager
