Today we will…
• Identify the problems of slum housing in Scotland’s cities
• Understand why these problems made people unhealthy
• Before we learn about all the new types of housing in Scotland, we need to understand why change was needed during the 20th century
• This lesson will provide us with evidence of all the problems of slum housing

During the 19th and 20th centuries many people moved to towns and
cities for work.
This meant there was a shortage of decent housing and people were
forced into slum housing where the rent was expensive despite terrible
conditions.
Why did people put up with these homes?
