Rubberized bitumen emulsion
POLYCOAT RBE is an emulsified rubber modified bitumen coating, which dries to form a tough, seamless, flexible vapor proof protective coating.
CHARACTERISTICS
Cold applied
Single component, easy to apply Can be applied on damp substrates Dual advantage of curing as well as protection
of concrete Can be applied in closed or confined areas.Water based Good resistance against chloride and sulphate
ions Has good adhesion to most building substrates Seamless/joint free
FIELDS OF APPLICATION
Can be used for a wide variety of applications, which includes the following: Protective coating on concrete foundations Curing compound on freshly cast concrete
structures Dampproof membrane in sandwich construc-
tionsVapor proof barrier coating for interior & exte-
rior floors & walls
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
The application temperature should be between4C to 45C. Application procedures may varyslightly depending upon site conditions. The gen-eral recommended guidelines for the applicationof the bitumen coating system is as follows:
Surface preparation
The surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of allcontaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil and grease. Light mechanical grinding/gritblasting/high pressure water jet may be used to
clean the surface of all the contaminants depend-ing on the degree of contamination on the surfaceto be coated. All surface imperfections and pro-trusions shall be removed and repaired. Struc-turally unsound and friable concrete must be re-moved and repaired with a suitable POLYCRETE*concrete repair mortar.
Priming
It is highly recommended to apply a priming coatprior to the application of the POLYCOAT RBE coat-
ing on the substrate. The primer can be preparedin the site by diluting POLYCOAT RBE with 20% wa-ter and applying this diluted coat as the primer. Forvery dry and porous substrates apply two coats ofthis primer. The primer can be applied to damp orfreshly cast concrete surfaces also. However, itshould not be applied on waterlogged or flowingwater areas. Further coats shall be applied only af-ter the primer coat dries off completely. In case ofdelay in application of the top coat for more than24 hours, a fresh coat of primer shall be re-applied.
Foundation Dampproofing
Stir the contents of the drum thoroughly before ap-plication to remove all sediments. Depending onthe dry film thickness required, apply the rubberizedbitumen coating @14m/lt./coat. On vertical ar-eas, it is recommended to apply the coating in mul-tiple layers in order to avoid sagging of the heavybodied coating. Subsequent coats shall be ap-plied only after the previous coat dries off com-pletely and shall be applied at right angles to theprevious coat. Clean dry sand may be broad-casted onto the wet coating to provide a key for thesubsequent coats and achieve a greater dry film
thickness. The coating should be applied and fin-ished up to the DPC level. If a plaster or cementrender is to be applied on the bitumen coated sur-face, clean dry sand shall be broadcasted on to thecoating whilst it is still wet. Leave the coating forcuring for a minimum period of 48 hours beforeapplying any protection board or backfilling. Careshall be taken to ensure that the first coat is notpunctured during the application of the secondcoat. However, if the coating is damaged, the areacan be readily over coated provided the surfacepreparation is done properly.
ProtectionPOLYCOAT RBE coating should be protected fromgetting damaged due to the ongoing site activitiesand during backfilling. Coating laid on horizontalsurfaces can be protected either by a cement sandscreed (50mm thick) or by an asphaltic protection

COVERAGE
The coverage varies depending on the type ofuse:
General Use : 4 m2/lt/coatCuring Compound : 5 m2/lt/coat
CLEANING
Clean all tools immediately after use with water.Hardened material can be cleaned with a solvent.
STORAGE & SHELF LIFE
The drums must be stored in a covered area, awayfrom direct sunlight, UV and other sources of heat.
The shelf life of the product is up to 12 months ifstored as per the recommendations. Excessive ex-posure to sunlight and UV will result in the deteri-oration of the product and reduce its shelf life.
