Polished Concrete beginnings

• Hays CISD used polished concrete as a way to move to a environmentally friendly “Green” floor surface. Since the surface is already concrete. We reduce the carbon footprint of the building by minimizing the addition of vinyl composition tile.

• When using polished concrete the need to purchased floor wax and custodial chemicals are greatly reduced.

• This has four effects:– Lowering our CARBON FOOTPRINT. – Enhancing our Indoor Air Quality. – Lowering our operating costs!!!– Reducing the number of custodial

hours needed to maintain floors.

Maintaining Polished Concrete

• Maintaining polished concrete is a three step process.

• Step one: daily dust mopping. • Step two: cleaning floor using floor

scrubbing machine with a neutral cleaner and a white pad.

• Step three: polish floor quarterly using a propane buffer with a diamond twister pad.
