JAMMU, Feb 3: Sierra 2020,the two-day annual fest of IIMSirmaur concluded today with fes-tive celebrations and enthusiasm.

A horde of competitionschurned out during both the dayswith lucrative prizes for the win-ners and some lifelong learningexperiences for those who did notturn out to be so lucky.

On the second day of the fest,various management events like“Take-Off” by theEntrepreneurship Cell, “Daayitva”by Datonics, “Stock Warz” by Area51, “Capital Market Workshop” byFinserve, “Enigma” by Datonics,“Marka Wars” by Markaizen and“Ophzeus” by Scope-TheOperations Club were held simul-taneously.

IIFT Delhi secured first threepositions of Ophzeus. ADMIFMSMumbai secured first position inDaayitva while NIT Surat securedsecond position. On the culturalfront, solo singing competition (bySong Dew) lined up for the morn-ing.

In sports, Dolphin Institutewon the Volleyball (men) whileUPES Dehradun was the runnerup. Graphic Era took away the TTmen’s title with UPES againsecured the runner up position.Paramjeet Singh from DIT won thesolo dance competition (HHI). Inthe power lifting category, IIMSirmaur won titles in three cate-gories while Himachal Institute ofPharmacy and Guru NanakCollege Yamunanagar each won inone category.

The evening was serenadedwith excellent performance by IIMSirmaur’s band-The Crux. After amusical evening which included

some beautiful melodies from theband, the event drew close to itsclimax: a star night featuring thepopular Punjabi singer, Akhil.

The night began with Akhilwelcoming everyone to the night.It then turned a magnificent shadeof crimson with Akhil performingsome of his famous songs. The per-formance went up to late night with

the crowd driven into what canonly be described as an exhilaratedfrenzy.

Professor Neelu Rohmetra,Director, IIM Sirmaur in a brieffelicitation ceremony gave IIMmemento along with a HimachaliCap and shawl to Akhil, afterwhich the singer concluded hisshow and took his leave.

JAMMU, Feb 3: Advisor toLieutenant Governor, FarooqKhan today reiterated that thepresent administration is makingconcerted efforts towards resolv-

ing grievances of people ofJammu and Kashmir in an expedi-tious manner.

The Advisor, while interactingwith people at his weekly publicoutreach camp held at ConventionCentre, Canal Road, maintainedthat fulfilling people's develop-mental aspirations is one ofGovernment's top priorities whichis being met with all commitmentand care.

About 37 deputations and 63individuals comprising around 300persons hailing from different partsof the Union Territory called on theAdvisor and apprised him of vari-ous issues confronting them.

A deputation of retired fire-men of Fire and EmergencyServices J&K sought Advisor'sintervention regarding the issue oftheir pay anomaly.

Another deputation of SRO-43 of 1994, SRO-376 candidates

of Police Department demandedissuance of their appointmentorders pending for clearance fromlast 18 months.

Likewise, a deputation fromBaba Deep Nagar, Gangyalsought Advisor's intervention

regarding sanitation issue in itsarea.

Meanwhile, a deputation fromMendhar area of Poonch districtapprised the Advisor of shortageof underground bunkers for thedwellers at Line of Control.

Another deputation fromMarhama village of Bijbeharademanded construction of a play-ing field in their area.

Similarly, a deputation fromDoongian area of Bahu Jammudemanded tile work on a lane intheir area.

A deputation from BashirGujar Basti Satwari, Jammudemanded black topping of a roadin their vicinity.

Another deputation fromChanni-Himmat sought renova-tion of public park in their area.

Several other deputations andindividuals hailing from differentareas of the UT including Kathua,

Jammu, Reasi, Ramban, Rajouri,Poonch, Srinagar, Baramulla,Kupwara, Anantnag, Sopore,Pulwama and other areas met theAdvisor and apprised him of theirissues.

On the occasion, AdvisorKhan also issued necessaryinstructions to the concerneddepartments for expeditiousredressal of people's grievances.

Meanwhile, advisor Governor,Farooq Khan released BetiBachao Beti Padhao (BBBP)theme based diary of StateResource Centre for WomenDevelopment (SRCWD) at CivilSecretariat.

State Mission Director,SRCWD, Rifat Arif; SpecialistGender, Sameena Mir and otherconcerned were present on theoccasion.

Pertinently, the theme diaryhas been released on the eve ofNational Girl Child Week to gen-erate awareness about the BBBPscheme.

SRINAGAR, Feb 3: Secretary,Food, Civil Supplies andConsumer Affairs (FCS&CA),Pandurang Kondbarao Pole todaysaid that AdministrativeSecretaries in Jammu and Kashmirwould stay connected with peopleto provide good governance attheir doorsteps.

Speaking to various deputa-tions during the public outreachprogramme held here, Pole saidthat Government has started anovel initiative of reaching out tothe people-primarily for address-ing their grievances and also pro-viding them with better servicedelivery. He said that theGovernment through these initia-tives, including ambitious 'Back toVillage' programmes aims tostrengthen the delivery of publicservices at ground level.

During the programme, sever-al deputations from Pulwama,Baramulla and Srinagar districtsapprised the Secretary about theirissues and demands.

The Secretary gave a patienthearing to the deputations andassured them that all of their gen-uine issues would be looked intoand addressed accordingly.

Pole said people must come for-ward and register their grievancesand also help Government func-tionaries to profile developmentalneeds of their respective areas, sothat they get better services.

He directed the officers that the

issue of the public importancemust be addressed on priority andthey must get hassle-free servicesfrom the department.

"FCS&CA is a vital depart-ment and people have lot of expec-

tations from us. We must makesure that we provide better servicedelivery and enhance the qualityof the public distribution system,"he said.

Pole said that people mustavail benefits of several centrallysponsored schemes-urging officersthat poorest of the poor must beprovided benefits under theschemes. He informed that theGovernment was taking severalmeasures to streamline the publicdistribution system.

He informed that the DPRshave been formulated to establishDistrict Consumer Forums.

Regarding the quality check acrossJammu and Kashmir, Pole saidthat market checking squads in allthe district headquarters haveintensified their activities. He saidthat in order to check hoarding,

profiteering and black marketing,Special Task Force (STF)havebeen constituted for regularinspection of stock and supplyposition of essential commoditiesincluding rice, wheat, sugar, LPG,kerosene oil, petrol and diesel intheir respective districts.

Later, Secretary FCS&CA,took stock of the essentials at areview meeting with the officers ofthe Department at Directorate ofFood Civil Supplies andConsumer Affairs, Srinagar.

The meeting was attended bythe Director, FCS&CA, BashirAhmad Khan, Joint DirectorFCS&CA, District officers, repre-sentatives from Oil Companiesand other concerned.

Pole sought detailed feedbackfrom the officers about the func-tion of the department. He direct-ed Enforcement Wing ofFCS&CA to conduct regularinspections to check total strengthof rationees, consumers, stock andsupply position of every rationdepot, fair price shops, LPG out-lets, Home delivery position,Kerosene depots, Petrol andDiesel outlets of the Kashmir divi-sion.

LEH, Feb 3: DivisionalCommissioner Ladakh, SaugatBiswas convened a meeting toreview the stocking position andshortages of essential commoditiesin Leh and Kargil districts and toascertain availability for the nextthree months at Leh today.

The Divisional Commissionerenquired about the existing stock ofessential

commodities with theCooperative Department,Cooperative Associations,Merchant Association andWholesaler Association of Leh andKargil. He directed the DC, Kargiland ADC, Leh to execute a marketsurvey mechanism to ascertain adata on monthly consumption andtotal off take in market of the essen-tial commodities like salt, sugar,tomato puree, onion, mutton, dal,ghee etc.

He added that based on this sur-vey report shortages will beaddressed by air lifting the requiredcommodity. The purchases will bemade by the merchant Associationwith the consent of the respectiveLAHDCs.

Biswas asked the DeputyCommissioners to ensure close

monitoring of the market byCooperative CAPD and MerchantAssociations and that no hoardingof material takes place. He instruct-ed the DCs to take meetings withthe members of MerchantAssociations to ensure a proper sys-tem in place to have adequatestocking of essential commoditiesin the districts of Leh and Kargil forthe next 3 months which he stressedis very crucial.

Direction was also given to theCAPD Department to give a dailyreport of availabilities of essentialcommodities to the DivisionalCommissioner and both the DeputyCommissioners.

SRINAGAR, Feb 3: Threekanals prime land was retrieved atUmerabad Peerbagh today inChanpora Tehsil of Srinagar.

The prime land was encroachedby way of walling and constructionof tin sheds, which was demolishedby a team lead by TehsildarChhanpora, Mubashir Amin alongwith field revenue officers.

The land worth crores wasattempted to be grabbed by some

locals who will be proceededagainst as per law.

Public has been advised to safe-guard common lands and reportcases of such encroachments toconcerned Tehsildars or MunicipalOfficers.

Similar exercises is also beingconducted in other Tehsils ofSrinagar.

JAMMU, Feb 3: Whileaddressing a meeting of DistrictCongress Committee (DCC),Jammu Urban, Vikram MalhotraPresident DCC criticized the BJP

Government at the Centre and theLG Administration of ignoring therights and aspirations of the peopleof the UT, especially the people ofJammu region.

He said that even after 6 monthsof dissolution of the erstwhileDogra State of Jammu, Kashmirand Ladakh, there is no clear poli-cy towards the domicile protectionand job security of the youth of theJ&K. While on one hand, peoplefrom outside the state are not able toregister land in J&K nor apply forjobs on the same hand there is noclarity on the state of the protectionof the local rights.

He urged upon the LG and theHome Minister to clear the ambigu-ity about the same. The youth of thestate have no avenues for jobs andboth PSC and SSB are lyingdefunct in the absence of any alter-native job recruitment agency. Hesaid the cruel joke played with thepeople of Jammu regarding the

restoration of mobile internet serv-ices has left the people disappoint-ed.

ADGP Railways visits GRPKatra, reviews security

KATRA, Feb 3: To reviewthe security, Deepak Kumar,ADGP Railways J&K Jammu,visited GRP Katra where he alsoinaugurated video conferencingcum meeting hall.

The officer held a Darbarand heard the grievances of offi-cers/officials of GRP SubDivisions Katra/Udhampur atGRP Lines Katra and redressedtheir genuine grievances. SRINAGAR, Feb 3: J&KBank has waived rentals on itsPoint of Sale (POS) terminalsinstalled in the UT of J&Kw.e.f. from August, 2019 toJanuary 2020. The concessionwill be passed on to POS termi-nals (both GPRS and MPOSdevices) having no transactionsduring the aforementioned peri-od. The move has come as agoodwill gesture from the pre-mier financial institution andaims to give impetus to cashlesspayments in the region.

“Understanding the difficul-ties faced by the business estab-lishments in J&K, the Bank hasdecided to provide relief to thesubscribers of POS machineswho could not carry out transac-tions during this particular peri-od”, the Bank’s Chairman andManaging Director, RajeshKumar Chhibber said. He alsosaid that the sharp rise in Bank’sfast and safe digital payments,has been possible only througha proactive digital policy of theBank that envisages 100 percentdigital transactions, in the nextcouple of years.

Pertinently, the Bank hadearlier featured among the topthree positions in achieving tar-gets in digital payment transac-tions as per Ministry ofElectronics and InformationTechnology’s (MeitY)“Digidhan Dashboard”- a plat-form for accurate reporting,monitoring and analysis of alldigital payments transactionsoccurring in the country.

JAMMU, Feb 3: DivisionalCommissioner Jammu, SanjeevVerma today visited Jambu Zoo atNagrota and inspected the ongoingworks.

He was accompanied by JointDirector Tourism, NeelamKhajuria, Divisional Forest OfficerWildlife, Ajay Sharma besidesother concerned officers.

He visited various sites includ-ing Cafeteria, Parking Space,Aviary, Leopard Enclosure, TigerEnclosures, View Points, LionEnclosures, Sambar Enclosure,Snake House etc.

The concerned officer gave adetailed presentation on the worksdone so far and works to be carriedout in phase-I of the project includ-ing water reservoir, leopard clo-sures, fencing, circular restaurant,public amenities etc. It wasinformed that cafeteria and view-points have been ready and workon aviaries is almost completed.The concerned officers also

informed that tenders for road andaviaries have been floated.

He further informed that themain attraction in Jambu Zoo willbe Asiatic Lion, Royal Bengaltiger, Black Beer, MarshCrocodile, Black bugs etc. It willalso have reptile chambers hostingthe poisonous and non-poisonoussnake. The Zoo will be one of thebiggest in north India. It will alsohave open amusement theatre andpark for children. The zoo willhave battery operated cars and

bicycle for the visitors to movearound.

The Div Com asked the con-cerned officers to early start thework on main entry gate, cafeteria,development of water bodies, parksand road so that it could be thrownopen for general public as soon aspossible. He also asked for consult-ing experts dealing with wildlifeand providing inputs for develop-ing the Zoo on modern lines so thatit would become one of the bestwildlife parks in the country.

DGP sanctions scholarshipfor wards of police

JAMMU, Feb 3: Continuingwith its endeavour to boost themorale and assist the wards ofthose police personnel who sacri-ficed their lives for nation or diedwhile performing their duties,Director General of Police (DGP)Dilbag Singh sanctioned scholar-ship of over Rs 1 lakh in favour oftwenty school going wards.

Rs 12,000 have been sanc-tioned in favour of Arshika Altafwho is pursuing MFSc and Rs10,000 have been sanctioned forAvneet Kour and Benish Khandoing graduation, Rs 6,000 eachhave been sanctioned in favour ofMehtab Zaheer and PriyanshiSharma studying in 8th class.Similarly, Rs 2,400 each have beensanctioned for Amanat Ali,Somaya Zaheer and MohammadHuzaif studying in classes 5th, 4thand UKG respectively.

Rs 5,000 each have been sanc-tioned in favour of wards ofdeceased police personnel whodied while in service due to natural/accidental deaths. Those awardedscholarships are studying in differ-ent classes of primary and middleinclude Masrat Ashraf, NighatAshraf, Basit Lateef, Taliya Lateef,Jatin Sharma, Sahil Sharma, AzraJan, Shahid Irshad, Rubeena andRustum.

DGP also sanctioned meritori-ous scholarship of Rs 4,000 each infavour of Anil Singh and SharadKumar, wards of serving SPOs forsecuring above 80 per cent marksin class 10th during the academicsession 2018-19.

The amount has been sanc-tioned out of Central PoliceEducation Fund/Police PariwarFund. The scholarships are grantedevery year for the school goingchildren of police martyrs to pro-vide them assistance in pursuingeducation & to boost their morale.

JAMMU, Feb 3: Welcomingthe first budget of the first decadeof 21st century presented by theFinance Minister, NirmalaSitharaman as a progressive,growth-oriented, wealth generat-ing and bold budget, Brig (retd)Anil Gupta, spokesperson ofBharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alsotook to task the opposition partiesfor unnecessary criticism of thebudget terming it as "ill-foundedand pre-conceived."

Elaborating further Brig Guptasaid, "The budget focussed onthree themes- Aspirational India,economic development and caringsociety''. This is what BJP haspromised to the nation in its mani-festo while driving the country to afive trillion economy. These objec-tives have been broadly addressed.

He said the budget focused onwealth and job creation. It hasbrought cheers to the faces of poorand middle class while at the sametime it has given a boost to thestart-ups. Another positive in thisbudget has been 100 per cent taxexemption on income on invest-ments in all forms i.e. dividend,interest, capital gains by sovereignfunds in infrastructure sector toboost the sector and provide muchneeded capital to this sector.Affordable housing has also beengiven the necessary push."

Government stake in IDBI willgive further boost to the economy.With emphasis on privatisation,productivity should improve in thelong run, asserted Brig Gupta.

With regards to doubling theincome of farmers, the budget hascome out with unique proposalslike launching of 'Kisan Rail','Krishi Udaan', Ware Housing,solar pumps, increased milk pro-duction and agricultural credit tar-get of 15 lakh crore for 2020-21.Apart from boosting educationand skills the budget for the firsttime caters for boosting criticalstrategic and path breaking tech-nologies like Artificial Intelligenceand Quantum technology. Theemphasis on infrastructure toinclude rail, sea ports, air ports andhighways will not only boost theeconomy but also create muchneeded jobs and address the issueof unemployment. The budget hasalso announced about two lakhjobs in various CentralGovernment ministries, statedBrig Gupta.
