Visitor Centres

Combine the use of many forms of interpretationGraphics, models, audio visual presentation, original objects, static, active and interactive exhibits.

Visitor Centre Displays

Because of their cost, visitor centres should be considered in the context of the regional or area communication plan (CALM,undated).

Visitor Centre Displays

Visitor centres can:•Provide a recognisable and approachable centre where visitors can seek information, ask questions and solve difficulties;•Provide a place for orienting visitors to an area;•Provide a venue for night time activities when the outdoor is inappropriate;•With planning, provide a venue for interpretation that compliments other sites and methods in the outdoors;•Provide a focus for other management functions (CALM, WA).

Visitor Centre Displays

Displays should:•Attempt to integrate the interpretation offered at the centre with that in the field as part of an overall approach to interpreting the resource;•Not attempt to interpret or explain items indoors that could be more appropriately explained on site;

Visitor Centre Displays

Displays should:•Present stories significant to the present status of the park and region that could not

otherwise be appreciated;

•Encourage visitors to experience directly the diversity of natural and cultural values of the area.

Displays
