This is the 'Pitch Presentation' I gave to the folks at the English Table Tennis Association to gain support for my idea of creating the first ever 'player-centric' participation model for table tennis.

Innovative Participation Model

The ETTA is invited to:• Critically assess an idea for an innovative participation model and

• Consider becoming involved in the project in any mutually beneficial way

2 Types of Players

TT is made up of 2 types of players: Informal & Formal. There are exponentially more informal players than formal players.

The Nexus of Forces

Cloud

The Nexus of Forces describes the convergence & mutual reinforcement of 4 independent trends. The forces combine to empower individuals as they interact

with each other and their information through well-designed ubiquitous technology.

Social Mobile

Information

When the Wii Console was introduced by Nintendo in 2006, a user could physically play table tennis in a virtual world for the first time ever.

As of 2013, the virtual realm can now be brought into the physical realm thanks to hardware innovations like Nike+ FuelBand & FitBit.

The Solution

The idea is to create an inexpensive and highly scalable ‘player-centric’ participation model. Such a model would enable unlimited opportunity to participate.

What Needs to be Built?

Hardware

This model would be supported by 3 elements:

1. Server & Application Programming Interface

2. Mobile & Web Apps

3. Universally attachable hardware

Benefits of a ‘Player-Centric’ Model

<>=

• Find other players

• Social sharing

• Find places to play • Highly targeted ads

• Targeted coaching advice

• Statistics • Player rankings

• Score tracking

• Other?

The hardware component is called the “Pongle”. Like a dongle, the Pongle adds functionality to the object it attaches to, in this case the racket.

Benefits to theETTA

Increase the participation pool

Enhance the retention of those already participating

Close the gap between the informal players and the formal players

Assume the above elements get built. What core competencies would the ETTA consider contributing for the success of

this ‘player-centric’ participation model?
