Letters of invitation are sent to rising 7th and 8th grade students who meet the
scholarship criteria in the late spring and/or early fall.
Students may then complete a brief application, which
includes signatures from two teachers who agree to write
letters of recommendation on behalf of the student.
Completed applications must then be submitted to the NJHS
Advisor by the posted deadline.
Service & Citizenship
Pin Oak NJHS members serve the school and
community in many ways through individual and group service projects.
Leadership & Character
Student officers are elected among their
fellow NJHS members to lead the chapter.
Representatives from Pin Oak NJHS participate in leadership conferences and other activities, in
Texas and throughout the country, in order to
enhance their character and increase their
leadership potential.
Additionally, NJHS members are leaders among the Pin Oak
student body at large, leading by example in
their performance both in and out of the classroom, by their character and by
their commitment to making the Pin Oak community a better
place.
Annual Pin Oak Toy DriveNJHS participated in this
annual event by wrapping holiday gifts for families in the
community.
Souperbowl of CaringThis school-wide drive,
sponsored by NJHS, provided 208 food items, 78 toiletry
items, 102 items of clothing, 30 toys, books & other items, as well as over $225 to the local Star of Hope Mission.
LEAD ConferenceThis was an amazing and memorable experience for
NJHS members who attended this exciting leadership
conference in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
What is NJHS?
The National Junior Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization
established to recognize outstanding junior high
school students.
More than just an honor roll; NJHS serves to honor
students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and
Citizenship.
To be academically eligible, candidates must be
members of the 7th or 8th grade class. These
candidates must have a minimum cumulative
scholastic average of 87% in each of their core classes.
Their eligibility for membership will then be
evaluated according to their service, leadership,
citizenship, and character.
What does the Pin Oak Chapter of the NJHS do?
Here are a few 2008-2009 projects and events:
Cards for Service MembersNJHS members sent hand-
made holiday cards to deployed service members and submitted cards online via the “Let’s Say Thanks” program.
