What Is Smoke Photography?

The process of taking photos of smoke from some kind of burning material, against a plain, black background.

What Materials Do You Need?

● Stick of incense/candle/something that makes smoke

● Off-camera flash or strong external lamp● Matte black backdrop● Tripod● Reflector● Photo editing software

Photoshoot Set Up

● Small, ventilated area.● No obnoxious drafts (can mess up photos).● External light needs to be placed to the left

or the right of the smoke, and focused on it.● Face the backdrop with the camera● Source of smoke in the direct center

Steps To Smoke Photography

1. Shutter speed to 1/2502. Have f/ set between f/ 5.6 and f/ 163. Set ISO as low as possible.4. Make sure you are set on MANUAL focus,

and use the tip of the burning item as your focal point.

5. Photoshoot6. Edit in some photo processing software (eg.

Camera Raw, Photoshop, etc.) and make them look magical.
