Alkali Sink

Seepweed or Inkweed

Large evergreen shrub, named for the poor black ink that it can make. Can grow up to 8 ft.

Soil

Alkali sinks have high alkaline soil. Has the appearance of beach sand, sinks under foot.

Saltbush

Evergreen bush, can grow up to 8 feet tall. Named for salty taste.

Shadscale Scrub

Sagebrush

This is an evergray shrub that can grow up to 4 feet tall. It is very drought tolerant.

Brome Grass

Annual herb; some species are invasive, like this plant.

Desert Wildflower

These are Encelia actonii; they are mountain sunflowers that can grow up to 4 feet tall.

Valley Grassland

Sunflower

Annual wildflowers such as the sunflower grow in grassland communities.

Brome Grass

This annual herb comes in more than one color; the purple shade is much more appealing.

Poison Sanicle

Poison Sanicle is a perennial with small, yellow flowers.

This is a 60 foot conifer that can be seenat elevations above the Digger Pine in California mountains.

This tree can be seen at high and low elevations. It has needles that grow in groupsOf threes and can grow up to 200 feet tall.

Coulter Pine

A green to gray conifer.Native to Central California.This pine is known for its heavy cones.
