Mitigating the Loss of Control in Flight Threat
Phenom Jet Association
Montreal, Canada
June 2013
APS Upset Prevention & Recovery Training
Upset Prevention and Recovery Training Solutions
• Recognized as a worldwide
industry leader in upset
prevention and recovery
training, APS delivers
advanced flight training
strategies to mitigate the Loss
of Control In-Flight threat.
• Simple-to-execute techniques
for pilots to use in the cockpit
to save lives and enhance air
safety for the traveling public.
18
The Threat to Air Safety
19
• In a report issued by Boeing in July 2012, Loss of
Control In-Flight (LOC-I) represents the most
severe cause factor in commercial aviation over
the past 10 years.
• LOC-I presents a unique challenge as it highlights
a serious deficiency in a pilot’s ability to deal with
a variety of flight envelope excursions.
Regrettably, current pilot training regulatory
standards and certification requirements do not
adequately address this skill deficiency.

• Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (KIWA)
• APS Texas

in-aircraft training
21
Uniquely Qualified & Specialized Instructor Pilots
• APS employs the industry's
most highly qualified flight
instructors to include
backgrounds as formal-course
military instructors, aerobatic
experts and commercial airline
pilots with vast all-attitude all-
envelope flight experience in
turbojet and piston airplanes.
• Each instructor tailors in-flight
upset training to meet the
client’s specific operational
needs. 22
High Altitude / High Speed Flight Operations
• Academic information addresses high
altitude operations which could lead to an
aircraft upset including thrust-limited
conditions and maximum altitude
considerations
• The academics of high speed aerodynamics
cover the concepts of compressibility, critical
Mach number, and Mach induced pitch
divergence.
23
In-Aircraft Upset Prevention & Recovery Training
• The APS team has many thousands of flight hours, and decades of first-hand instructional experience, dedicated to mitigating the threat of Loss of Control in-Flight .
• They teach pilots in a wide spectrum of training devices, how to effectively deal with time-critical life-threatening flight conditions, using techniques and strategies transferable to all fixed-wing airplanes.

APS Fleet of Extra 300L Training Aircraft
25
Simulator Upset Prevention & Recovery Training
• Highly specialized full motion simulator instructional techniques allow pilots to develop life-saving skill sets to comprehensively recognize, avoid and recover from in-flight jet upsets.
• Flight simulators can be used as a powerful training resource to address loss of control when in qualified hands.
