PERICARDITIS

INTRODUCTION• Inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart is known as

pericarditis.• Heart is surrounded by 4 layers• Pericardium

The pericardial sac is a folded fibrous connective tissue layer that encompasses the entire heart and the roots of the great vessels.

• Epicardium The epicardium is the layer of muscle found covering the external surfaces of the heart. It is directly fused with the myocardium internally and is in contact with the serous layer of the pericardium.

• MyocardiumThe myocardium is the middle muscular layer of the heart's wall

• Endocardium• Inner layer of the heart• The endocardium is composed of endothelial cells that

provide a smooth, non-adherent surface for blood collection and pumping and may help regulate contractility.

SIGNS&SYMPTOMS• Chest pain• Coughing• Some other causes  GERD, pulmonary embolism,

muscular pain, must be ruled out

• Chronic pericarditis is form of constrictive pericarditis.• Acute non specific idiopathic pericarditis-i30.0• Infective pericarditis-i30.1• Other forms of acute pericarditis-i30.8• Acute pericarditis,unspecified-i30.9• Chronic adhesive pericarditis-i31.0• Chronic constrictive pericarditis-i31.1

• Hemopericardium, not elsewhere classified-i31.2• Pericardial effusion-i31.3• Cardiac tamponade  is when fluid in the pericardium

builds up and results in compression of the heart.• It is also known as pericardium tamponade• Cardiac tamponade-i31.4 Code first underlying cause

• Pericarditis in diseases classified elsewhere-i32• Code first underlying disease• Acute and subacute endocarditis-i33• Nonrheumatic mitral value disorders-i34• Nonrheumatic aortic valve disorders-i35• Nonrheumatic tricuspid valve disorders-i36

• Nonrheumatic pulmonary valve disorders-i37• Endocarditis valve unspecified-i38• Endocarditis and heart valve disorders in disease

classified elsewhere-i39• Acute myocarditis-i40• Myocarditis in diseases classified elsewhere-i41 code first

underlying disease such as thypus(A75.0-A75.9)

• Cardiomyopathy refers to diseases of the heart muscle.• Cardiomyopathy-i42• Atrioventricular and left bundle-branch block-i44• Other conduction disorders-i45• Cardiac arrest-i46• Paroxysmal tachycardia-i47

• Atrial fibrillation and flutte-i48• Other cardiac arrthmias-i49• Heart failure-i50• Complications and ill-defined descriptions of heart
