Dashboard Design & Development
14
Moving to the Dashboard Era…
Users were creating manual dashboards… collaborated with IT
to embark on dashboard project
15
What the users were creating manually . . .
Looked cool, but . . .
•Enormous manual effort to produce
•One person’s view of a slice of the operation
•No mechanism for distribution other than email
The idea needed . . .
•Automation
•Definition of common metrics to measure all dealerships across multiple aspects of the business
•Mass distribution via the Web and mobile devices
16
Envisioning
1. Develop a Sales & Service Dashboard
2. Each Dashboard to contain would have 4-5 Subject Areas
3. Each Subject Area would contain 4-6 Metrics.
4. Flexible design
5. Use WebFOCUS BI platform & specifically WebFOCUS 8 version
6. Position as working proof of concept, example of a Web dashboard.
7. Engage users for feedback for application expansion
8. Go Mobile – access to the application from mobile devices:
• External browsers supported: IE, Chrome, & Safari
• Support PAG used mobile devices: Apple iPad and iPhone
17
9. Hierarchical security structure: Levels of permissions to include:
• Enterprise Level (1) – Access to all application data.
• Region Level (3) – only data within defined user Region
• Area (27) – only data within the defined user Area
• Store (192) – only data within the defined user Store
10. Enhance Security: each level of reporting further restricted by:
• Inventory
• Sales
• General Ledger
• E-Commerce
• Financial Services
• Service
Envisioning
18
Intensive period of requirement interviews with Users and IT to:
• Determine Subject Areas to deliver under the two Dashboards (Sales & Service).
• Determine Metrics to deliver under each Dashboard Subject Area.
• Define the appropriate user security levels and associated data access permissions.

WebFOCUS Automation: Sales Dashboard
23
WebFOCUS Automation: Service Dashboard
24
Key Features & Functionality: Comparator Header
The parameters selected on the comparator heading drive all of the reporting objects displayed on the dashboard, across tabs.
Key Features & Functionality: Comparator Header
Parameters from the header drive the content of each report . . .
then re-used for each tab until the selection is explicitly changed
26
Key Features & Functionality: User Access
Content of the dropdowns is determined by user access levels. Chaining of the location dropdowns is driven by our store hierarchy.
27
Key Features & Functionality: User Access
Example: First, All stores for the EAST Region are shown. Select the Rhode Island Area, the Store dropdown responds accordingly.
28
As users resize the Dashboard, the graphs follow suit!!
Key Features & Functionality: Auto Re-size
29
Adding new tabs to the dashboard is a drag and drop function. These tabs are specific to the creator and will not appear on other users desktops. The new tabs
are not integrated with the Comparator Header but they are persistent.
Key Features & Functionality: New Tabs
30
Report position is determined by the layout chosen for new page.
Keep in mind, in order to have the objects re-size automatically you will need to select a layout that has more than one column.

Great Color Codes for Graphs
These color codes (or variants of them) look real nice next to each other in line and bar charts, etc.
Color choice makes a big impact in graph appeal.
