Ped/Bike Crossing to Pigs EyePresentation by the District 1 Community Council

A city on the river – but who has access??

Great River Passage Plan More natural, more urban, more

connected A more robust trail system that provides

better access to the natural environment, specifically the river

Creating a continuous recreational experience along the river corridor

Weave the Great River Park into the fabric of Saint Paul

What is missing here? There is no direct access to Pigs Eye and

the river from District 1 – only access is from the river

Underpass from Battle Creek to west side of Highway 61 feels unsafe

There is a disconnect from Battle Creek Park to Pigs Eye Natural area

“you can’t get there from here…”

What stands in our way?

The City’s Plan – part 1

City Plan part 2

Bike/Ped/(canoe…) access A visible, safe, and universally

accessible bridge over Highway 61 to Pigs Eye Lake

Open a natural resource to a diverse community that currently lacks any direct connection to the river

Connect with the Red Rock Corridor planning – transit station at Lower Afton?

The vision….

Benefits Meets the goals of the Great River Park

plan Can connect to future transit planning

for Red Rock Corridor Provides access to a natural resource by

a diverse community – enhancing livability and adding value to a currently inaccessible asset

THANK YOU!!
