ProE Tip of the Week: Quick MapkeysCreate mapkeys to quickly perform routine operations.
MapKey: Save File
2
Step #1: For this example, we’ll create a Mapkey for saving your files. (This operation can be repeated for any operation you would like to create a Mapkey for).
1.A: Click Tools > Mapkeys
1.B: Click New to open up the record Mapkey window
1.C: Type the key sequence (I practice the “save early/often” approach so I like to have a Mapkey as close to my mouse hand as possible – For this example we’ll use the (-) button on the keyboard number pad – see below)
1.D: Name the Mapkey
1.E: If the Mapkey is complicated, give it a description so you remember what its used for
3
Step #2: Use the Record keyboard input prompt handling to create the Mapkey. (For more advanced users – you can use the OS script to program the Mapkey)
2.A: Click Record (Once you click record the system is saving all of your key strokes to the Mapkey – to reduce the time it takes to initiate a Mapkey, record as few operations as possible to achieve the command)
2.B: With your mouse click file > save
2.C: When you’re finished with the command, click stop > then click ok to exit the record Mapkey window.
2.D: In the base Mapkey window all of your saved Mapkeys will be shown in session. To save the newly created Mapkey to your Config.pro file click save…
2.E: A save window will open which will prompt you to select the config.pro file. If the file is not already shown, navigate to its location and save the new Mapkey.

Step #3: Save early and often!
Now try it out it with one of your parts to make sure it works!(There is no harm in saving early/often – use the Part Versions tip #17 to retrieve older file versions in case you overwrite your work)
