Pataka A Hastings Intermediate School
IPENZ Project
The reason for the projectOur organic garden produced a surplus of food
this year
The Process
• Meet with our engineer• Identify the issue• Develop a brief • Develop our knowledge and ideas• Draw up some plans• Cost out the project• Raise some funds• Build the pataka
The problem• We wanted to be
able to store the excess produce from our organic gardens so the food technology students would be able to use fresh vegetables year round.
Anyone for soup?
Simon meets the KAT team• We started by listing the vegetables we wanted to store so we could
do some research into their storage requirements
Testing our knowledge
We tested whether water or soil (sod) worked better to keep a constant air temperature underneath
Presenting our plansCameron and Nathan convincing us their ideas were the best.
Raising funds• Cameron and food, hmmm…
Time to buildTeam work, these poles are heavy!
Hey, where are the boys?
The KAT team met twice during the holidays to get the pataka started
