The Holy Spirit and Prayer

First Question:What is prayer?

Romans 8:15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear

again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, ‘Abba, Father.’

Second Question:How should we pray?

Ephesians 6:18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.

With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Revelation 4:2At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne

in heaven with someone sitting on it.

2 Corinthians 12:2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know – God

knows.

Praying in the Spirit is when we pray in accordance with His promptings and with His power – NIV Study Bible

Romans 8:26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we

ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.Continued/…..

Romans 8:27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the

Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Romans 15:30I urge you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.

Colossians 1:9For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through

all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.

Third Question:How can my prayer life become Spirit-led?

1 Corinthians 14:14,15For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding; I will sing

with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.

We need to have the “Mind of Christ”

John 11: 41,42 Then Jesus looked up and said, ‘Father, I thank you

that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent

me.’

Romans 12:2Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good,

pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 8:9-14

Life through the Spirit

Philippians 2: 12,13 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed ………… continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in

order to fulfill his good purpose.

Jude 1:20,21But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the

mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

The Holy Spirit and PrayerWe can call out Abba, Father

We need to pray in the Spirit at all times

He reveals God’s will to us and gives us the words to pray

For this to happen, we must live by the Spirit
