Parts of a Plant

Seed coat is a hard outer protective covering of a seed.

Roots hold the plant in the ground. Roots take water and nutrients from the soil.

Roots carry water and nutrients to the stem.

Green Leaves

Green leaves use air, water and energy from sunlight to make food for the plant.

A new baby plant. The roots grow down into the soil, but the

stem grows up toward the sunlight and out of the ground.

A new plant sprout that comes out of the ground.

Seedling

Is the colorful part of the plant that produces fruit and seeds.

A flower contains pollen which is a powdery substance that attracts bees and birds which fertilize the flower seed and cause the flower to produce fruit.

Flower

Fruit can grow around the seed.

When the fruit is eaten, then the seed goes back into the ground to start the plant cycle all over again.

Powder is the powdery stuff found in flowers.

Begin to grow.

Germinate

The stem carries water and nutrients to the leaves and the flower.
