PARIS 1er

The Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal was born from the magic of its address, at the very heart of Paris.

Nestling next to the Palais-Royal, it is an echo of this site so stee-ped in history - Louis XIV learnt to ride here – and is home today to some of the most cutting edge fashion designers. The charac-ter of the hotel draws upon this marriage between the past and present so typical of the City of Lights to bring together Parisian elegance and contemporary hospitality.

Step inside and the boxwoods sculpted in strict accordance with the rules of topiary art trumpet the perfect harmony that Pierre-Yves Ro-chon has striven to achieve for this XVIIIth century edifice and its elegant listed façade. A jewel, where history – a highly reputed learned society once stood here – stands alongside a range of services so inherent in a XXIst cen-tury luxury establishment.

Individually designed in keeping with the original architecture and around the majestic forged iron staircase – at the foot of which presides a giant trunk to hold luggage - each of the 68 rooms has its own unique character.

All share the same goal: to antici-pate the every need of a demanding international clientele. The guiding principle, natural light – a majority of rooms enjoy a view of Paris, some of them a deck - is underlined by the delicate décor designed in collabora-tion with some of the leading names: fabrics, hangings and wallpaper by Pierre Frey, Rubelli, Manuel Canovas, Dedar and Etamine, furnishings by Philippe Hurel, lighting by Delisle. Wi-thout forgetting the original artwork by renowned and up-and-coming artists: lithography by Emmanuelle Audessat, triptych by Michel Cornu, monotype by José Aguirre, canvases by the Mexican Fitzia…

YESTERDAY AND TODAY

From the signature lobby to the breath-taking suite offering a 180° panorama of Paris, the Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal has been completely renovated to offer guests the quin-tessence of Parisian chic.

THE PARISIAN SPIRIT ON THE LAST FLOOR OF THE HOTEL, THE 7TH, NESTLE THE “ SUITE» AND THE «PALAIS ROYAL SUITE»,OVER TWO FLOORS: TWO EXCEPTIONAL SUITES OFFERING A UNIQUE VISTA OVER PARIS.

Served by a private elevator, the first (80 m2) offers the charms of a di-ning room bordering an office, which in turn leads on to a salon with bay windows that serve as an irresistible invitation to step out onto the large deck (25 m2). Here, the eyes linger over Paris, its rooftops and its monu-ments. In the foreground, the gardens of the Palais-Royal, with their elegant walkways and fan-shaped fountains.

A little further sits the Louvre, majes-tic. The 180° view gives rise to a fas-cinating spectacle: the Sacré-Cœur, the Paris Opera house, and the gol-den dome of the Invalides, the Eiffel Tower. Bathed in light from the double aspect windows, the bedroom, with its light hues (oak flooring, white da-mask linen), underlines the exceptio-nal character of this site. As does the bathroom in Calacatta marble.

The junior suite located on the 6th floor offers a delicate cocoon. Charcoals (Fragonard, Raphaël, Le Brun or Michel Ange) sit in harmony with the colored canvasses of Fitzia and highlight the choice of furni-shings. A cylindrical oak table, a Louis XVI cabriolet in almond velour, a chaise longue and stool, both in almond, co-ordinate with the flower-print curtains in this room where lamp bases are rounded (Asiatides) and desks shaped like half-moons. Each detail has been carefully selected in terms of relaxation, ease of living (there is a real dressing room) and well-being: frosted sliding glass doors lead to the calm of a bathroom offering a range of products from Carita.

Overlooking the place de Valois or the Ministry of Culture, each room - many of which may be connected with the neighboring room - com-bines the cachet of a modernized Haussmann apartment with the charm of the Palais-Royal.

A CULTURAL HAVEN Resting on a bed of pebbles, a great pine tree watches over the re-ception and its gilded ceiling. An immense Hellenistic bust interacts with a masterful canvas by Isabelle Crampe. Alongside, magnificent green hydrangeas dress a hamme-red steel console table. In the space of a few steps the visitor is plunged into the cultural eclecticism that the Grand Hôtel du Palais Royal is so ea-ger to share.

In the lobby, the ages come together naturally. From the workshops of the Louvre, busts of Voltaire, Rousseau, Buffon and Diderot – this latter used to arrive at the Palais Royal daily from 5:00 - surround the custom-made center table. Two etchings by Pol Bury predate the original engravings of Catherine Cazau.

Arranged in the form of modern alco-ves in a subdued chic style, two salons adapt to every occasion: an executive rendezvous, post-shopping tea after a browse through the irresistible bou-tiques in the Palais-Royal, or just for the pleasure of reading. Comfortable settees and armchairs are placed around low tables in straw marquetry with bronze medallions to create an intimate atmosphere, as is empha-sized by the paintings on display: original XIXth century watercolors, copies of XIXth century engravings illustrating Parisian gardens, engra-vings of the Sun King, or a François I costume series

The cozy atmosphere of the bar lounge, with the gray Moleanos marble and quilted deerskin counter, Macassar ebony walls and Jouy-print curtains depicting scenes from Pari-sian life, is the ideal place to indulge in a glass of champagne or a cocktail. From midday to midnight, the bar serves a selection of International classics (club sandwich, Cesar salad…), as well as a selection of large dishes that are perfect for sharing!

For the restaurant Le Lulli, Chef Clément le Norcy has created a balanced menu (5 starters, 5 main dishes and 5 desserts) with top quality ingredients. All dishes are perfectly executed using seasonal produce: snack-style King Prawns, caramelised lettuce hearts and shellfish vinaigrette, Organic Boiled Egg with soldiers, spinach and chorizo, Lamb in a thyme and lemon marinade, with grilled leek and spiced yoghurt or roast Sea Bream with spinach, shallots and caper- infused olive oil…

For dessert, it’s difficult not to succumb to the “rum baba-style red fruit” or “sweet caramel chocolate and crunchy biscuit” …
